Sean Hartigan 101
Give him a pain killer/anti inflammatory before he goes out with you, for a few times and see if he gets back into the swing of things Quote Link to post
morton 5,369
My bushing terrier has never been known for lack of drive, in fact has been a bit of a menace in the past for for taking things that little bit too far. That all changed back in june when he jumped out the truck and injured his back. He was partially paralysed and i thought it might be the end of him. It wasn't and with alot of TLC and vet bills hes back on his feet and able to work. Hes lost alot of muscle in his rear end which doesn't seem to be coming back regardless of excersize and domething has happened to his drive. He wont search for quarry himself but will hunt it once another dog has found it. This is frustrating as he's my only busher and i hadnt reslised how much i rely on him. I cant decide if its the injury thats stopping him and adrenaline that gets him going when another dog speaks or something else. I don't often ask questions on here as i think its hard for anyone to judge without seeing but would be interested to hear people thoughts on this as im stumped. Injury is the cause of the dogs decline in work ethic, many a mutt recovers from their injury and again work with their previous purpose, alas yours may never again reach its earlier potential,id source the service of a decent bone man for a 2nd opinion, until then the dog may slowly recover, many do,many don,t.The little it may offer in the field is better than zilch, ive just retired one to a pet home,it took me over 12 months to make the decision that i knew 12 months earlier, the comfort of a pet lifestyle better suited my once illustrious hunting companion, good luck. Tyla 3,179
I will try a boneman, i use one for the lurchers, but i'm pretty confident in my vet as he does the local greyhound track. You never know when a second opinion has the answer though so its worth a go. 1 Quote Link to post
forest of dean redneck 12,023
What you could do. . . . knob head. Is go back in time and give yourself a kick in the nuts when you thought it was a good idea to have his nuts off! Subtle ,lol Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
He's a sweetheart isn'y he FoD, he's right though. He could have thrown some handy pups put across Gwen or similar Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,217
He could have thrown some handy pups across a fast type lurcher. Probably wouldn't live that long though If he had nuts he'd be my pick to go over Gwen. So all in all not your greatest decision Come round for a cuppa on the way back and we can talk broken dogs Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
Will do, is Bree back in action again? Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,217
Not yet, but kennel panels are on their way, and she should follow shortly after. Then I've just got to get her fit and keep her unbroken. And then hopefully next autumn, we go to war! And she will hopefully have a nine month side kick. Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
Well, i dont think its lack of drive. Lurcher bitch caught a fox yesterday and Ollie was so desperate to get to them that he smashed his way through an acre of gorse and bramble and after she lost hold of it and it got away up the mountain he hunted it at full pace for a further 10 minutes. The result of that is that he was do stiff this morning that i left him at home and he missed her catching another one today, which didn't escape. Back home next week to embark on a round of vets, bonemen and physios to try and put him right. Still think a pup is on the cards though. 2 Quote Link to post
