Getting Off Zero When Changing Parallax

What the f'k is everyone on about here?

 

Changing your magnification on a scope with change your aim points, unless your have a first focal plane reticule.

 

Cheating your focus, or AO as Jonnie rightly put will not change your zero.

Mine changes zero not aim points.

The adjustment at the back is to get the crosshairs sharply in focus for your eyes. Won't look the same for anyone else. Once set, lock it and don't touch it again.

 

The adjustment at the front or sidewheel on some scopes is to re-focus/parralax to get the target sharp. Obviously this will go in/out of focus at different distances but it won't change the point of impact.

 

The magnifying ring is the fella that's going to upset things a cheaper scope (and some dear ones as well). If you've got one of these, Zero at the mag that you usually shoot at. I would say use the maximum but many cheap scopes will give a much darker picture at full mag. When scanning for targets turn the mag down to give yourself the widest field of view and the brightest picture, then turn up again to take the shot. Hopefully zeroing and shooting at the same mag will do the trick. If it still moves from shot to shot, chuck it in the bin.
