walshie 2,804
I realise this is probably subjective and everyone had their own opinions, but in general, when should you change your pups feeds from 3 a day to 2 a day? Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
I think they let you know themselves and all pups are individual. As opposed to saying "at 8 months drop to 2 meals and at 12 months drop to 1 meal" etc. My brindle bitch was on 3 meals until 12 months old and hardly put any weight on. I still had her on 2 meals up until very recently, well over 2 years old. She struggled with a big meal and needed the food spreading out. I've finally managed to up her meal size so she is getting one big meal and getting everything she needs. But she is difficult to keep weight on. My pup is the opposite. Eats like a horse and if I gave her 3 meals a day that satisfied her she would be really fat. At 6 months old she was crying for more food after eating and I could tell she was hungry. The meals couldn't be made much bigger, she was getting 2lb of meat plus other stuff 3 times a day. So I dropped her to 2 bigger meals then. Similar thing at 8 months. She wasn't happy with her 2 "small meals", even though they were bigger than most adult Great Danes meals. Lol. And I could tell she was still hungry after eating, so now I give her as much as she can eat once a day (within reason). She will eat 3-4lb of meat plus brown bread, pasta, tomatoes, fish, eggs etc. And she still gets a couple of chicken wings in the morning, which I don't really class as a meal. How old is your pup? 2 Quote Link to post
Somewhereyournot 1,117
Running dogs got small stomachs, stay to as many meals as you can for as long as possible , if you can. But gaz got a point, at some point they will start to refuse the extra meals, my collie x start going to 2 meals about 11 months old I think and still gets two , BUT it is a pain, he just prefers one meal. jcm 2,327
For me I think it's the quality of the food more so than quantities what is the point in feeding a dog loads of shit that has very little nutritional value to it compared to feeding good quality meat and dry kibble what gives your pup everything it needs to grow Quote Link to post
Somewhereyournot 1,117
My two both raw fed with tiny bit carbs now added. Chicken carcasses, lamb beef and tripe. Get abit of veg left over from dinner now and again. I also add lard to my older dogs diet Quote Link to post
