Standard Of Dogs

a dog that try it's best is good enough for me

A dog that pick and chooses it's run I won't give the time of day

x2, also dog aggression and human aggression tendencies are a pretty good way to get a one way ticket on the lead express. I'll work with the dog aggression but if it's getting snappy with people it's gone, had too many incidents happen to me and mates to put up with that crap. I also won't breed from a dog that gets snappy with other dogs. I expect the dog to start showing a bit of promise before it's 12 months, and be working at an alright level by 18 months, if it's got a lot of wolfhound or deerhound add 6 months to those numbers. If it's still not performing by then, it's gone. I got heaps of numbers and they get plenty of work so there's no excuse. However I've been lucky and have a mate who breeds his own line and I've never got a dud from him. His last litter I got a bitch out of does not have a single pup that didn't turn into a great worker

Me personally, was never happy, always critical to a fault.

But it's a road to nowhere as the more they do the more critical you get.

These days I'll work them to their strengths.

These days if a dog does most stuff at a fair standard I'm more than happy.

Sometimes if you step back, and just enjoy you'll see them in a different light and maybe better than you think.

Good post that mate...

Temprement is key for me tbh.. My kids enjoy the dogs, and always have, they've got to be nice and steady around them first and foremost.. I wouldn't keep a dog no matter the hunting ability if it wasn't good around the kids and people..

I enjoy the dogs a lot, but it's not my job it's my hobby, they are my companions when we're out, all the basics are down to us that bit of drive is either there or not... As long as they give it a bloody good go and don't chase the farmers sheep I'm happy enough lol

A leg on each corner and a head at the front........ Anything after that is a massive bonus for me.

If they manage to knock a few bits over by pure chance and luck then I consider the whole thing a success.

Oh..... And no shitting in the house, defiantly no shitting in the house!
