got a knock on me door last week from someone asking about shifting some rats, ever weary i took the details and went to have a look . turns out thrs six cottages on an unclassified road the ditch across the road is over run with em . one old gal had been sliceing up lemons n oranges she`d heard they keep rats away? anyway it had`nt worked so this morning despite the pissin rain i take the my 2 older russell type bitchs see what i can do , i knock on all the cottage doors just to let them know what i`m about no problems from any of em. within the hour we got 6 rats and the prospect of more .the chap who asked me to have a look pops over with a welcome mug of tea he`s well happy .twenty mins further in and i`m digging away for my old bitch whos lovin it when 2 ladys go by on horses i give them a cheery good morning and a wave :bye: then comes the question are you digging for fox :wallbash:holding up a handfull of dead rats i explain the problem and what i`m doing . half an hour later yes half an hour not 3 hours days or weeks i`m getting a tug from the law blue lights n all :hmm: went thru the dumb question routine dont you think its cruel letting the dogs get soaked and muddy was the best one  anyway turns out they gonna report me to the council for damaging council property the ditch and digging for rats . all reminds me of early eightys when we got a pull when out foxing the law thought we whr digging the queer feller i thought the digging game whr fecked then . i`m thinking the same now :whistling:

Wankers arent they?!?!? Only question would be did the people in the cottages have the right to give you permission on council property? if not i spose its poaching but as its the councils responsibility to control the rats any reasonable person would say you were doing them a favour, problem is reasonable people are few and far between these days!

Good luck with it!

Interesting scenario, Flint. Sadly, it does seem like a cut and dried case against ye, if the council decide to go for it. Quite simply; Ye were hunting rats, with Dogs, without the land owners written permission.

Perhaps now ye have a better understanding of why I voted with my feet and walked right out of that shit house of a country? Like a lucky Jew in '32, I saw the writing on the wall and got the f*ck out. I predicted all this and more to my family and friends and bid them goodbye for ever.

Now please make a note of the URL to ye post here. Because it may be some time before the wheels turn and ye get that letter. When or if ye do, it'll be better if ye can just return here and tell us the up shot of this original situation.

Maybe the council will turn a blind eye? Maybe they'll tacitly give ye the go ahead? Maybe they'll throw the book at ye and make an example of ye? Who's to know? But I wouldn't be planning any summer holidays just yet :(

Flint I know it is easy enough to say but DONT LET THE b*****ds GET YOU DOWN

I started a thread on the terrier section reguarding Police clamping down around here, spending a pretty penny doing it ,I then read in the western mail Welsh national paper that children as young as Ten are addicted to Heroin and they are being targeted by drug dealing scum.

Reguarding your problem the council do have a responsibility to control rats,If the take you on do you think they would want the local rag spreading the fact that there is a rat problem in their area GOOD LUCK MATE

something similar happened to me earlier in the year,2 police cars turned up and accused of digging badgers after a phone call from a passer by.

after taking all our details we were asked by the police what we had in the box, when we showed them the ferrets they wanted to know how we caught them :whistling:

DO NOT CO-OPERATE WITH THE COUNCIL

Take it from someone who knows only to well................ I ended up waiting 18 months for a date in the Crown........... then I f****d them right off :clapper:

Never the less it's not worth the hassle. Council types are just wound up bitter civil servant insects.............. ignore them !!!

Remember if you do go before the beak opt for Crown court where a jury and a judge rather than idiotic Magistrates will see the council for the small minded berks that they are ! ;)

Oi brummy we are not all small minded magistrates ill have you know iam very broad minded and if that came before me i think it would be a word in the prosecution barrister ear before we dismissed the case and i would speak to the council and remind them they have a duty to control the rats and if they give you a permission letter you would be happy to assist them

Topper, you may not be small minded. :hmm:

What is more, if you took time to read my post properly you would see that I clearly indicate that it is the council (not legal council!) that are small minded NOT Magistrates. It is MY view that cases involving civil servants as the plaintiff/prosecution are best heard in a Crown court.

My post was not a dig at you Topper or Magistrates in general merely my opinion based on experience.

However since you ARE a Magistrate Topper your grammar and sentence construction is shocking.:no:

As has often been said: common sense aint that common! When I look at some of the posts on here I am heartened with how much common sense prevails within the hunting community, and then I read others which remind me that the saying is true!

never was any good with english grammar should have went to school more, iam good on common sense does that count for anything

Common sense counts for everything Topper that much is true. So are you a Magistrate or not?
