Are there any lads from Derbyshire or Nottinghamshire on this forum? As I have seen certain rarities this past month. There are Ospreys at Ogston Reservoir and my brother took me to see Lesser Grey Shrike in Nottinghamshire. Anyone ever seen the latter bird in question?

Bush Rummager, never done much at Budby. However, every year at a certain place I do watch the Honey Buzzards. Budby is a nice location.

Me neither to be honest. Just never seem to get around to it. We had a week away on Skye a few months back, clocked over 1300 miles. We were lucky enough to see the Sea Eagles from the Portree boat trip. All seemed a little staged to be fair! Still great to see nonetheless. But to top that, great views of a breeding pair of Golden Eagles... right out of our cottage window! Absolutely awesome! Those sights will stay with me forever.

Somtimes i do kick myself for overlooking what we do have right on our doorstep.

Lutra, i think i might know the spot where you watch the Honey Buzzards from. I tried to catch the Ospreys there earlier in the year but just couldn't time it right!

BUSHRUMMAGER, IF YOU FEEL LIKE IT PM, WE MAY BE ABLE TO GET TOGETHER THE OF COURSE PROVIDING EVERYTHING IS LOCKED UP UNDER LOCK AND KEY, AND NO KNOWLEDGE IS DIVULGED. TO BE BRUTALLY HONEST MY BROTHER AND MYSELF HAVE BEEN DONE DOWN TOO MANY TIMES. HOWEVER, INTO DAYS CLIMATE WE HAVE TO UNITE, STICK AND SHARE KNOWLEDGE TOGETHER. MY MAIN INTEREST IS DOGS OF COURSE, JACK RUSSELLS THEN BIRDS, ESPECIALLY RAPTORS ANS FINCHES.

That's a grand offer Lutra and I'll gladly take you up on it thanks.

Won't be be just yet though as I down in Essex just for the week whilst the kids are off school.

We're stopping out in the sticks so it seems, but it's only a stones throw from the dreaded m25.

To be honest, I'm surprised how nice it is here, smashing bit of countryside.

Tomorrows plan is to head into the big city and show my two young girls what it's all about!

Did a quick google last night, and I was initially surprised to read greater London has highest density of Peregrines in the UK . 30 breeding pairs apparently. Might catch a glimpse or two with a bit of look!!

Cheers again!??

Sorry i'm late replying Lutra.

Thinking about it, probably not the same spot.

I was referring to the 'raptor watch point' as its known, overlooking the Welbeck Estate, obviously in notts, not Derbys. We pass it a fair bit, especially spring/ summer on our way into clumber with the kids. Not unusual to see small crowds there when news gets around of a sighting. Apparently a good spot for Honey Buzzards, Gos and Osprey.... if luck is on your side! I might set my stall out next year, make a few purposeful trips early on, only ten mins down the road from me.

I'm guessing you heard about the Crag Martin on the spire??

I must admit, i had to google it, never heard of one!!

I also had my first encounter with the 'ringed necked parakeets' down in essex the other week.

Hope they never get established around our way.... they make a right bloody racket!! LOL

cheers..

Bush Rummager,

Very sorry for the delay in replying to your last post. I have heard of the Crag Martins before but I didn't pick upon the news regarding it being on the spire. We grew up with birds, but to be honest my love is terriers.I prefer the Russells but love Borders also. However, I have seen some good black and coloured terriers work over the years. However, the place we grew up at all the ground was sand and some big places and very tight are the holes. Back to the birds.I love all types especially Nightjars and Woodcock which to me seem so mystical and somewhat elusive; especially the Woodcock. One I like the most is the Sparrow Hawk and I have flown both Male and Female many years ago. Don't forget you can come with me this season and watch the Nightjars; perhaps locate the Woodlark also.I don't take crowds because the way I look at this situation one always will have more success if by yourself. What do you think? I did hear a Red Footed Falcon had been shot, rotten sods! It was found in Cambridgeshire.Just contact me my friend if you fancy watching our feathered friends next season. So for now. Good luck in whatever you may do.

Lutra Lutra.
