pianoman 3,589
I have been saying it for a long time Chris , these are super guns even the old ones I know you have mate, and I've not disagreed with you.I've even started to think, why not just have one in .22, one in .177 and, maybe, one in .25. Then I'm sorted and don't have to worry about regs, electronics, fecking shite Harper valves or anything else. I'd just have to fill up more regularly. Chris I couldn't agree with these sentiments more Chris. My HW80 FAC .22, HW77 .22 and HW97K .177 are all the air rifles I will ever seriously need. They will absolutely take the pants off a PCP they way they are set up for the type of hunting jobs they do on my permissions. Accurate as I can possibly be, reliable, ready to hunt, ready to go a full day's shooting and no looking at fill-pressure guages, power-curves and sweet-spots. The Daystate Regal I have is a truly beautiful rifle to be honest but, bloody Hell, it's like a Bentley with a half-arsed engine's power supply. It basically needs the air in the cylinder to be down to half its pressure capacity before it shows its true performance capability at around 160 bar pressure. What's the point of a 210 bar capacity if it produces a whole 1-ft/lb of power-curve that can mean a difference of about an inch of zero-vertical drift on your scope? I'm persisting with the Regal as I've invested too much time, money and patience to just chuck it in a sale and get rid; and it's performance potential is absolutely blistering. At the sweetspot 11.3 ft/lbs it has consistently produced some fantastic long range kills on rabbits and woodpigeons. I've had none of the problems you've have had with yours Chris. You must have really believed in the promise this rifle has, to have bought a few before you walked away from the Regal as a brand model in obvious disgust. But, for me, I'm going to have to spend good money to get to that potential out of it and get seriously shooting with it on my permissions. The Harper Valve system is a completely unsuitable, useless power-plant for a rifle costing this level of money. But I am more than convinced that, with the right regulator fitted, it will prove an awesome field hunting rifle. If they built beautiful, quality -ooking cars with engines that performed like this, they's be washed up and out of business in no time. I think Mitch still has a leaning toward the Regal, as it it really is a beautiful rifle when all is doing as it should do. But seriously Mitch, be prepared to spend more of your good money mate, if this rifle is really what you want it to be. In that sense there is much to recommend it. But to spend £800 on a rifle and then, another £200 to finish it off, into the rifle it should be, is a piss-take to be honest. Whoever bought a brand new car, then had to buy and fit a more power-efficient, reliable engine for it??? Madness! Simon Edited September 11, 2015 by pianoman 4 Quote Link to post
