Jax13 251
what would people say is the best age range to breed from their jills? with having absolutely no knowledge on ferret breeding i am curious to know what people think about the breeding career of their jills (and hobs for that matter) are you best leaving them a couple of years before you start? are you better stopping breeding from them at a certain age? is there any benefit to the ferret by breeding off her year on year? i was thinking i would maybe pick up a hob kit next year and then breed him at 2yo to my (at that time) 4yo jills giving me a couple of seasons to get the kits i keep up to speed before the current batch hit retirement / semi retirement at about 6 seasons. what do you guys do? i don't really want to breed a litter each year if i can help it but i would like to do it at some point to bring kits on from scratch rather than from weaned / nip trained out of another home. rabbit demon 302
You can breed them the first year they come into season if you want. If you breed and get a litter from your best every couple of year you'll always have a good age range. New kits starting from scratch as the older ones are retiring. Or if any die on you you'll have a replacement or two. Quote Link to post

Let both the hob and jill prove themselves for at least a couple of seasons, only breed if theyre both good reliable workers. 1 Quote Link to post
The one 8,594
The first thing you should be asking is ,is my ferret good enough to breed from if it is it's going to be three years old with at least a couple of seasons graft to see its a grafter , and as they get older the litter size gets smaller . Just because all ferrets come into season doesn't mean they should all be bred from 2 Quote Link to post
