Nice Find On 'spareground' Might Be Of Interest To Someone?

My first offer of 'rent' is a lamb for the freezer and the erection and maintainence of fencing etc.

Generally you find people renting bits like this out cos they havent got the time to keep it nice. If that isn't accepted then I offer £100 per acre per year, dunno what the going rate up there is though..

The most I have paid was £60 per month for 4.5 acres with a barn, but it was teeming with rabbits and pheasants so I never bought meat lol!

That's £160/acre/year. What you growing on that to make a profit?

It would be handy for a few hebridians put to a cheviot tup. Easy to lamb and dont cost much to buy and are easily looked after. Then just sell the lambs store if you dont want to finnish them. Just make sure the ewes have nice short teeth when you buy them.

I wasn't making a profit, I was hanging onto my tiny flock. I had to move, this was the only ground that I could walk to in the snow etc.

I spent years building a pedigree flock and was keeping them somehow! I had to reduce the size somewhat but I kept my best, ate the rest.

But to me it was worth it, I turned it into wild flower meadows, had my fair share of bunnies and birds off it. It was a private haven for me too, I could go there whenever life got too hectic, just me an the dog and me sheep! Had a little caravan tucked away in one corner for when I was lambing, and stayed there loads.

I miss that spot, though I am lucky now that what I have for the flock I get in return for checking the landlords cattle for him when he's working nights.

Operation flock regeneration begins lol!
