Tiercel 6,986
I thought I would do a post on how I make my wooden Norwegian type netting needles. I use whatever hard woods I have. Oak is my favourite with Ash a close second. I have made them from Iroko, Sapele, and even Igdobo although that did not last long. I start off with a blank trimmed to the correct size. Then cut the edges of the channels. Next I drill a hole at the top of the channels, route out the channels and shape the outer bit of the nose of the needle. The next step is to cut out the inside of the nose of the needle. The next step is to finish the nose with rasps and sandpaper. All that is left to do then is to make the gap at the tip of the nose the right tension. To do this I open up the gap with a block of wood, then wrap a bobble around the very tip of the nose. I then steam both sides of the nose till the tips touch. Once the tips touch I leave to dry for an hour or so and when the bobble is taken off and the block of wood removed the tips are touching with enough tension not to let twine off the needle if dropped and they click when loading the needle. After steaming the tips close up. The needle tips are now the right tension for using. All that is left to do now is a bit of final sanding and waxing. The finished needles. Tiercel 6,986
Are they made for an order TC ..?They certainly look a professional job .. No, those were made a few years ago, I have not made any since till last week when I made a new batch. Different to these ones. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/344970-a-busy-week/?view=getnewpost . I will be putting some of those up for auction for the charity fishing comp. I have had a few pm's and some have expressed an interest in buying them. So why not let them bid for them and the monies go to the fishing comp cause this year.
