snoopdog 1,256
I exercise my lurcher with at least 6 cattle dogs every day...that shows you how intolerant they are. Nearly every bugger has one round here. The person who wrote that they kill dogs they can't dominate is probably the same bloke who wrote that English Bull Terriers are fighting dogs When you do get a nasty one though, they are little buggers in the mid eighties stabs ...lets say this anyway ....i so an english and it was the bizz ....belive me .. not saying they are ..but this was ...... ....... Dawn B 212
how much is not cheap. i like the look of these dogs. do they make ok pets are they good with other dogs. just asking read up on them just wanting some first hand knowledge of people. cheers david They dont make ideal pets no, I have spoken to several owners as this is a dog I am particularly interested in. They tolerate bitches but rarely males, I was told if they cant dominate another dog, they kill it! excuse my french dawn ..but that sounds like a right load of shity drivvel ....surlely if the dogs brought up in the correct manner it wouldnt be so dominant ....down to the owners if you ask me ....chalky may be able to shed some light on there temprement ....as they say exspeariance is the key to knowledge ..not what you have heard ... Its what they told me Snoop, I dont think they would lie, I do know people that own them, a couple live fine with bitches and some of them are downright evil with other dogs, male and female. I have enquired more than once about buying one, and told they wouldnt sell me one while I had other dogs, particularly Terriers. I LOVE the breed, and I WILL have one one day, a blue mottle male, lovely!

Actually there are very few registered each year and HUGE waiting lists and it was a show kennel who I approached that also breeds Angus cattle which the ACD's work regularly. They are in Scotland and also breed Lucas Terriers. I can only tell you what I was told, opinions were asked for and I gave mine based on what I ahve been told. I LOVE the breed but would be guided by those who kept them. To say its rubbish is also rubbish, you wouldnt keep male Akitas, Shar-Pei, Dobermanns, Pits, Staffs or several other breeds together, why would these be any different? bill88 6
my uncle has a male akita and its the soppiest dog i know and most of the chavs that live near me have staffys that cant fight sleep i think you listen to the wrong people dawn
stevemac 445
You lot must have some shit lines over there or they are in the hands of the wrong people. my best mate before he past bred them for 30yrs we never had trouble when we hunted our dogs together and for a bloke with slow dogs boy did he catch some hares and foxes. very smart dogs and in the his hands model citizens. I also think it makes a HUGE difference if these dogs work, they dont "do" pet only! my uncle has a male akita and its the soppiest dog i know and most of the chavs that live near me have staffys that cant fight sleep i think you listen to the wrong people dawn Counting on my database, in the last 15yrs, I have boarded 87 different Akitas, 52 of them male, I am fairly familiar with them, if your uncles Akita is "soppy" then its not typical of the breed, bit like a GSD that legs it when somebody knocks the door! Guest MOLLY
Ive only ever met one nice Akita, it was ancient and on its last legs, but you could tell it had always been a nice natured beast in its time. All the rest have been terrifying To say certain breeds dont have certain temprements really surprises me, especially when people on here are so quick to say salukis are tempremental/headstrong. Collie crosses are intelligent. Bulls, high prey drive. Black terriers hard, border terriers slow to start etc etc MOLL.
