Ireland New Rules For All Ireland Whippet Championship Racing

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO WHIPPET OWNERS WISHING TO ENTER THE ALL IRELAND WHIPPET CHAMPIONSHIP RACING AT SHANES CASTLE SATURDAY 27th JUNE

 

The racing is under the direction of Tom Barry assisted by a number of clubs. The Game Fair and working dog committees have put in place a set of rules to attempt to settle any controversy or disputes regarding the whippet racing at Shanes Castle in 2015.

 

Please note these rules replace any previous rules posted and any decisions previously taken on eligibility to race as a whippet at the Game Fair or any other show or race meeting.

 

The Rules are as follows:
1. Whippet racing at Shanes Castle is confined to pure bred whippets registered with the IKC or KC.
2.To save any public controversy and delays to racing at the Game Fair, entries for the whippet racing are being taken in advance and must be made to Tom Barry by telephone , or email by COB on the 10th June. A list of the declared dogs will be posted on the Hunting Life Forum and Facebook. NO ENTRIES FOR THE WHIPPET RACE WILL BE TAKEN ON THE DAY.
3. All owners by entering the race agree to abide by the rules which include the right of other competitors to lodge an objection at any stage from when the runners are declared until the 20th June. In the event of such an objection the owner(s) of the dog(s) in dispute are expected to facilitate the organisers to have the disputed dog(s) DNA tested. This will be done on the basis of a comparison with the DNA of dogs out of the claimed sire.
4. The person objecting must give a reason for the objection and lodge a deposit of £40. In the event of the objection being sustained this will be returned and in the event of the objection being turned down it will be forfeit and donated to a charity.
5. These rules are intended to ensure fairness to everyone. We recognise that the owner of a particular dog may be unaware of the authenticity of the declared breeding and/or in fact the dam of the dog in question may have been mated ( accidently or otherwise) by two different dogs. So obviously such a test will also be of benefit to the owner by giving them definitive proof of parentage. As well as demonstrating that the dog is a pure bred whippet.
6. Initially the organisers will pay the cost of the DNA test. But if the DNA test indicates that the declared breeding is suspect then the owner of the dog must agree to refund the cost of the test. The organisers reserve the right to report the findings of the DNA test to the relevant Kennel Club.
7. By entering the race all competitors agree to be bound by these rules and conditions.
8. Anyone who has any doubt of the breeding of their dog should consider running the dog in the under 21” lurcher category or people who have not entered the whippet race by the closing date can also enter this class.

good for you albert , now this should be done in lurchers too, to stop , the huge amount of purebred greyhounds competing against , cross bred dogs

Whippet racing existed before the KC or IKC. At the very least there should be racing for unpapered whippets and not in the lurcher class. A sad ruling for the whippet racing fraternity as so many dogs and families will be excluded. We are whippet folk not lurcher folk!
