Yokel Matt 918
I've got an informal arrangement with a local farmer where I trap the moles and shoot the odd deer and also get to keep any fallen timber that they might want clearing. Might have bitten off more than I can chew with this lump though; despite being much bigger than ive done before its also hung up on a 7ft high stone wall. Should keep the home fires burning for a while though.
moxy 617
No better feeling of reward than the hard yakker of sorting something like that out. Lugging and humping and sitting back and watching it burn. Nice one I had a similar arrangement in place with a mate but he's a tenant farmer. A big dead elm came down. Snapped about 15ft up the trunk and hung up dangerously on the tear. I spent a good morning dropping it safely and orhanised a tractor and trailer for the day after to get it up the yard. My plans changed and had to work that day so rescheduled for the day after. Turned up. Chainsaws and tractor and it had gone..!! The fooking lot. All was left was a pile of burning embers from the brash. The landlord came and took it. I was pissed to say the least.
Yokel Matt 918
Ouch - that's a tough one to take on the chin, it a lingering concern in the back of my mind as well. You get to appreciate why they call it surgery, gravity is just waiting for the chance to f**k you over when you're cutting off the ground.
sussex 5,803
I cut up a couple of dead elms from my place , not big but a days work , had it cut and stacked when my pal called up , that's elm he said , won't chuck out any heat that ...he was right it didn't ...it burns but didn't put any heat out .. Had to put some ash or oak on with it to make a tidy fire ..
dytkos 18,066
Always trees coming down round here, I harvested them for years! Moved now and got central heating, there's loads out there but no ones picking it for some reason? Cheers, D.
