jocky 198
Can any one tell me if there was a limit on the power of air rifles in the 60s, like sub 12lb. as my dad used to shoot a old bsa air sporter in 22. with nice small open sights. and used it kill a lot of rabbits and hares ect from a far distance with it. Bammers 2
im pretty sure there were no power limits back in the early 60s Edited April 12, 2015 by Bammers Quote Link to post
Rimfireboy! 1,463
I think the 12 ft lbs limit came in with the 1968 firearms act. It's very unlikely that your dads airsporter was above that power anyway, they usually ran at around 9-10 ft lbs in .22. Only a few American pump up air rifles were much above 12 ft lbs back then. pianoman 3,589
I still have a pellet lodged in my left cheek that was put there courtesy of my cousin via his Relum Tornado .22 tap-loading underlever. I was shot from about 5 feet away and he forgot that little detail of him loading it a few minutes before. That was back in about 1968/69.. Had his rifle been of the order of the sub 12 ft/lbs .22 spring rifles we have today, I think I might have been killed. Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Its like the wagon wheel myth, when you get older everything was bigger and further away years ago! Quote Link to post
