cymruguy69 5
Iv'e notice my ferret has got a tick behind one of its ears. Iv'e never had to deal with ticks before how would I go about dealing with it? Will this tick spread to my other ferret and my dogs which are kenneled right next to the dogs?? Cheers Cymru!! stubby 175
found a few on my jill after ferreting, I used a guinea pig spray, followed by a bath with dog flea shampoo, which did the trick, but have been told "frontline" spray is the better thing to use as it will kill both flea/ticks, be careful cos the do get off once fed, so can still be in the bedding/sawdust etc and therefore can transfer between animals Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
Yes frontlines excellent if you have some Quote Link to post

ghengis 4
i have used the frontline with great success, also used this one which imo is better and cheaper. http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dep...&pf_id=6262 Quote Link to post
Scuzy 1
just grip it with a pliers or rip it out with your fingernails!!!! Quote Link to post
cymruguy69 5
Iv'e read somewhere if you rip them off don't their heads stay and you get eggs left??? Quote Link to post
stubby 175
you can get a tick puller, cost about £1-50 not a lover of just pulling off, as this can SOMETIMES lead to infection frontline is harder to get hold off these days, as shops need special license to sell it, as its not normally over the counter sales my local shop is getting some stuff in called "tick away", I'll post on if its any good once put to the test the spot on stuff is a preventative like flea drops, at £2-99 per animal as the link says, not much good for those of us that keep higher numbers of ferrets Quote Link to post
Guest john2007oliver
jesus crist just pull it out :haha: i thought no body was going to say that :clapper: Quote Link to post
ghengis 4
i can get the spot on for £1.50 from my local pet shop it will treat 2 ferts,my ferret was worked a week ago, couple days later noticed ticks all around his head/ears used spot on all gone within 48 hrs. is the tick away stuff a natural product,if it is i used some last year it aint very good imo, just stinks of tea tree or summit like that. you can get frontline spray from vets Quote Link to post

The best wat is to use frontline, the one for cats. Its easier to get hold of now as the pet suppliers who are registered as chemists can now supply. One drop per pound of animal is all you need and they are sorted for at least one month. I keep my ferrets sepperate overnight once treated so they dont lick it off each other. I'm not a fan of pulling them off ferrets as they are wriggly little buggers and the ticks often surround the eyes, also if you dont get the head out it WILL get infected. Just use frontline drops its clean easy and very effective. Quote Link to post

socks 32,253
for the love of god this is the simplest form of animal husbandry .... removing ticks curing fleas and worms should be second nature to anybody with working animals ..... right hold the ferret by the scruff with your thumb and forefinger this will render the ferret imobile .... then use a tick hook and remove the thing .... if you cant get one then using the thumb and forefinger of the other other hand grip the tick as close to the ferrets skin as possible and twist anticlockwise and pull the same time ... hey presto tick and legs all out ... once removed crush the parisite untill it pops to make sure it is dead and doesnt get on any other of your animals .... simple really .........
