First fox was a dog, which fell to a .22 rimfire at 20yds in the chest. Rest were with the hornet. Second fox was another dog, that was pairing up with a vixen and alongside her in the adjacent field of rape, shot him off the bipod. Last night I had a look out bit crunchy underfoot but managed a couple. Shot a few rabbits and headed off to speak to a farmer and turned back round, on the way back, I spotted a fox were I had shot the rabbit, it heard my vehicle coming down the lane and ran off into the field with the rabbit, so I walked over and another fell, this time a vixen. Then 300 yds away I was knocking a few more rabbits down, and another came strolling past, the rabbits I had shot, another fox down. To be honest I'm loving this drone/hornet combination. No sorry mate, misread or badly worded on my part, I was 300yds from the first fox were I had shot it, the shots were taken 100-150 yds. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
charlie caller 3,654 Posted December 15, 2014 Report Share Posted December 15, 2014 Cool, I thought that must be the case mate, 187 yards was my longest shot with the hornet, fox dropped on the spot, I have no experience of the .17 hornet, but certainly would not push a .22 over 200 yards, good shooting by the way 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

3175darren 1,102 Posted December 17, 2014 Report Share Posted December 17, 2014 Good to see some one else enjoying there hornet,I cant believe I didn't get one years ago I love mine now ,hardly ever pick the 223 up it just drops fox on the spot , can I ask Ian, as I am thick when it comes to this night vision game, does it make your rifle unwieldy, I keep looking at this digital stuff and I know I will end up buying one, at some point, and no doubt I will buy the wrong one, Quote Link to post Share on other sites

The drone is not a light unit, but it's well built, add a battery pack and torch and it all starts mounting up weight wise. But I shoot off sticks or bipod anyway and a sling helps when on walk about. Get one you will love it ! Quote Link to post Share on other sites
3175darren 1,102 Posted December 17, 2014 Report Share Posted December 17, 2014 What kind of money are they, one would be perfect for me as I do a lot of my foxing alone on foot, and by the time you have humped, battery and lamp, a NV unit it has to make sense, I am going to get a roof mounted lamp for the car soon, but the ground up here, gets ridiculous with water and it hinders the whole job, it can be a ball ache at times, Quote Link to post Share on other sites

IanB 0 Posted December 18, 2014 Author Report Share Posted December 18, 2014 The pulsar n550 n750, etc are pretty good with additional IR, the only limit is the 4.7x optical mag, but there still great image quality. The drone is a slightly higher resolution display, but it's strong point is the purpose built 10x optical mag, which is great for centrefire ranges. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I'm back in the market at the mo for a new foxing rifle, was going to go .22-250 as usual or maybe .223, but this does interest me, I don't generally take long shots, certainly not more than 200yds. This caliber appears to have enough to kill humanely at that range and the ammo marginally cheaper. The YouTube vids are all using a 20 grn pill though.
