Crowning

were can i but the 11 degree reamer for crowning? i have had a bit of a look since walshie posted about shortening a barrel and recrowning.

 

my gunshop seems to keep the gun between 2 and 3 weeks nomater whats getting done, the tool would be better than parting with the plinker.

 

or whats the cost of recrowning?

I have used a ball bearing with lapping paste . I also glued a ball bearing into the end of a piece of tube to get a bit more pressure not to much .lightly rotate the ball bearing in the end of the barrel with lapping paste .I used a standard counter sink to start with not to much ...there are pictures of this on the net or there was some years ago when I did this .I have crowned two barrels with success this way .you will have to work out the size of ball bearing but I used the same for 177 and 22 there may be some ideal size I just grabbed a ball bearing that I thought would work .8.5mm may be a catapult ammo

The best way and fastest way is to do it on a lathe, But in the USA you can purchase a "Recrowning tool" which you can buy to do the job by hand. The tool comes in several sizes of barrel diameter as long as you quote the correct size of your barrel then its only a couple of minutes to complete. I have the companies name who make them somewhere, I will have a look through the paperwork and try to give you the details.

 

I have just fetched up the info that I had at the time the company is Brownells .com in the USA go on to their site and see if they still sell them.
