tomshep 41
I was given a ripped up and tangled 25yd long net a while ago and it has just sat in the shed, well last week I set about it with a knife and made myself four short stop nets only about 5-6ft long . I have a farm I ferret that holds a lot of rabbits in some hedgerows that have fenceing up both side and a lot of holes to net, but with my new home made stop nets I can run the long nets up either side and just put the short nets through between the two fence lines this saves a lot of time and noise as I get over the fences and hell it worked a treat today. So I was just wondering what other people have made to help with the ground they ferret or even just one spot that is a bit awkward . Quote Link to post
bumpy22 414
we use a combination of quick set long nets and stop nets as per cent of our ferreting down here is hedge rows. the short stop nets are great if we can get them through the hedges, this stop the rabbits bolting up and down. I have heard people say they use pieces of ply on really thick hedges where the nets cant be put through 1 Quote Link to post
GreyRake 108
For those kinds of hedgerows I've used bits or wood and cardboard to block them off. Once even used my bag and ferret box as a sort of scarecrow to block a route off, worked too. Quote Link to post
bumpy22 414
also forgot to add we tie the jack russells up to the hedge which sends them back 1 Quote Link to post
vanman1 411
We use bright colored feed sacks stuffed with leaves/grass etc to block ditches that run alongside thick hedges, works a treat where you cant get a stop net or bit of ply in. nice and light two which is a bonus 1 Quote Link to post
tomshep 41
To be honest the nets I made aren,t flash by any means and all I do is tie them to either fence so they just hang there as long as they stop the rabbit long enough for the dog to get there Quote Link to post

TOMO 28,582
One bit of kit I like to have is a folding saw,,,not only can you cut branches and roots,,,,but it's also been used to drag dead rabbits out the ferret has killed,,,all you do is put it up the stop end,,and push in to the rabbits fur,,twist a few times and drag it out... Vin also likes to carry this little scoop thing,, for clearing the dirt out the bottom of the holes Quote Link to post
vanman1 411
Always carry a pack of drawing pins, handy to help hold net in place around trees/stumps etc.Oh and a good length of bailing twine lol you wouldn't believe how handy that is, from fixing broken trousers, tying branches out the way, I often tie barbed wire fences together so easier access for me/dogs. A stout walking stick helps when loaded up on uneven ground,i then leg me rabbits and thread em on the stick for the walk back ,2 men can manage 20 bunnies easily with this method. Quote Link to post
