Dog Doesn't Mark Up No More

Recommended Posts

My lurcher used to mark warrens but because I have done Hardley any ferreting and while on a mooch call him away from a whole he doesn't mark up no more, maybe take a ferret wit me more often so he knows if he marks I'm gunna put a ferret over his mark ?

I think until they reach a certain experience level you need to reward the marks every time and even then as much as you can.

So basically have a mooch where a mark is not likely not easy I know or as you say take a ferret but again not practical in the evenings.

With my terrier I used to ferret some right pain in the ass places on my own rather than drag him away until he got to the point where it was so ingrained I didn't have to worry much. But I suspect a lurcher will be much easier to go off the idea

The thing is a dog soon learns there's no point marking a burrow if you don't ferret it. Mine never mark rabbits underground when I'm mooching/bushing, but the moment a ferret is taken they revert back to marking. Why would you want a dog to mark a burrow if you haven't got a ferret with you? Or did you mean that the dog won't mark even when you're out ferreting?

Well like you say I don't want him marking while out mooching but last time I took the ferrets out he still didn't mark up, however last season I think I only had 3 outing with the ferrets the rest was lamping and mooching, I'm thinking get him out witg the ferrets more because he used to mark up 100%

I try not reward my dog when marking think it can lead to false marking jmo

me neither I meant as in a bolt or a bit of action. Dog marks soon learns ferret in rabbit out hopefully  you know they have it sussed when they give you that look. But if it marks and you move on I imagine it learns the opposite at least in the early years just my thinking
