Yes you can train a dog to bark on command but that will not stop another dog from attacking it.

The best thing is a f#####g big stick, or better still pepper spray or cs gas.

Some dogs are never the same after a dog attack, and the vet bills are a joke.

So if a dog comes charging up to you, and your dog, you be the dominant one and belt the f#####r.

100%. Attack is the best form of defence..

I watched my mate leave mine the other day, and a neighbours shepard come running out its garden and tried to have a go at my mates boxer, my mate was quick enough and dragged his dog the other side of him and gave the shepard a knee, at which point another neighbour grabbed the shepards collar..

A day later the same shepard come steaming out of its gate, towards me and one of my terriers on our way back in from a walk. The shepard was so focused on my dog, it was like it didnt even notice me and tried steaming in, so it got a good one in the ribs as soon as it was close enough. The b*****d sat straight down, then the owners kids started crying to their old man, who couldnt do or say shit as he knew the dog shouldnt have been out. The fact that they(occasionally) walk it muzzled says it all.

I've got a huge German Shepherd a bit like that near me too Bob. I first met it early one morning in my local wood about six months ago when I heard a woman shouting in the dark for me to put my kelpies on a lead as "He's not been socialised," to which I replied, "That's ok: mine have been!"

Then, a few weeks ago, the same thing happened...she obviously didn't recognise me in the dark...so I pointed out that using the excuse that he'd not been socialised wasn't that useful as she should have been doing something about it in the intervening months rather than only walking it in the dark.

At this point I still presumed it was a rescue dog which she'd taken on until somebody else told me she's had it from a pup...and it's eight!
