Recommended Posts

its been ok mate . had a few decent bass over the weekend. Had my youngest lad and my nephew down for a week at the beginning of the month and they had a really good week.plenty of fish of all sorts. lad had his first bull huss off a local mark so he was well pleased . ive been targetting the huss a little bit lately, may have to venture furher afield for a really good one but had some reasonable ones five minutes from home. Theyve been catching a few atlantic blue bonito round here lately.

Cheers lads,

Clive

A few lads are up for a trip off here, I've wanted to organise one but ran out if time for a summer trip.. After Christmas until end if feb will be good for some really big pollack. I might just book the boat for 4 or 5 trips through the year I could cover places anyway and if a few off here come it'll be a bonus.

That sounds like the beginning of a plan Kev!

After Xmas would suit me nicely to be honest, as is all ways the case with me it's all about planning in advance, if I have a date far enough if advance I can usually make it work.

I get how busy things get with work and family commitments so anything you could book, I for one would really appreciate it, takes some beating does local knowledge ;-)

Definitely Bry,

The summers flown by again, I'll be down for the cod and not the bass the way it's going!!

There's been so e good plaice fishing on the skerries the last month or so, a mate of mine had 83 between 3 of them a few weeks back!!

How's your fishing been going mate?

I fished the Skerries about 25 years ago, the skippers who fish there are the best I have ever been out with. We fished it in March and the Plaice even though plentiful were not really in good condition as they had just spawned. That said we still had plaice to 3lb to the boat. I bet they are in primes condition at the moment though.

TC

Yeah they're good skippers down there mate, Dave Harrison on Gemini is one of the best I've been out with, the plaice are nice and plump now not like the spent early season fish..

I fish the skerries a lot mate and fishing aint like it used to be. had a few 3lber this year and hear of the odd 5lber but majority of fish is around the 1.5lb mark .

fishing the wrecks just off startpoint are producing some cracking ling at the moment tho and hopefuly the weather isn't to bad for this Saturday so we can get out there agin.

I've been meaning to get down for a day with you mate, this summers just flown by with stuff on most weekends.

I'll book a trip out with you though I lie he fishing down that way.

Your right about the fishing it's changed everywhere, for the worst, when you see the amount if small commercial baits hammering the bass shoals on the inshore wrecks and some of them are ex charter skippers! It's bound to have an effect on the size and amount of fish in the end mate.

The lads I was out with on Sunday had fished the skerries a month back, the had 80 odd fish and although not really big they were nice fat fish,.

Sounds like your finding a few fish then mate, nice one.

Bonito!! That's a first for me, that would be fun on light gear I reckon!!

yes newkid theres plenty of plaice on the skerries best day we had was 124 in a 8hr trip . only 30 were keepers. there are talks on the skerries being policed and I think something like 10 plaice per fisherman

I think it should be a no go zone for a year and see what its like then

Well the estuary nursery zones for the bass have worked to a degree, although I think a well policed bag limited would be the best way forward.

It's greed all round that has had such a detrimental affect on stocks, you see lads filling boxes of plaice do they need all of it?

Look at how the mackerel get hit, hundreds taken on feathers, fish light with a spinner and catch a dozen or so, loads more fun and looks after stocks... Unfortunately people are greedy.

I think a year lay off on the skerries would be great, but can't see the revenue it gives wound allow it, so a bag limit again would be sensible.

Sorry its took me a while to reply kev. Was out on a boat all day yesterday. Its a hard life mine lol. Although i am working in the tackle shop in padstow at the moment. The bonito being caught rod and line are only about 12oz at the moment but the netters have had some bigger ones so its only a matter of time till someone hooks a decent one i reckon. There are a few decent fish about at the moment but they seem to be there one day and gone the next but we keep finding them. Have to keep it quiet to stop the gill netters finding out where they are or they wipe them out.
