Totally Bizarre Session - Ratting

This was such a weird ratting session. It's 2am (when I started typing this) and I can honestly say that a lot of things simply did not add up.

I started off at 11pm, arriving at the chicken farm (my usual ratting site) and the farmer had asked me to clear out Houses 1 and 2. HYPED! Last time in house 1 I got 15 confirmed kills, and only 9 in house 2. But this time I was setting snares before I left.

So, armed with enough batteries to light a small town. Enough CO2 to put out a forest fire, and enough pellets to take down a bull elephant, I set off to have some fun.

As I said, got on site at 11pm and went to house 1. When I got there I had found out the whole place had been emptied and cleaned out. The back doors were open, the side door was open, and there was a small patrol of cats around. They'll do the rat killing for me.

I line up to a usual rat spot, only to see the fat bum of a big rat. Lips puckered, I make a squeak sound. Mr Rat turns round and looks at a small red glow. Out of this red glow a pellet came flying. That was his first and last experience with infra red light. A squeal, drop, small scurry, then silence. Rat 1 dead! Yeah, hyped! This will be a great session.

Then over to the hole in the side of the scratch area to check into the small enclave room. Nothing.

Upstairs I manage to scare the living poop out of myself. Ratting, alone, in the pitch black, with a single shot air rifle, a vivid imagination, after watching loads of SUPER RAT videos on youtube, is a great way to scare the poop out of yourself. Especially when a load or rats suddenly charge you, at head height! No joke, I freaked. Properly thought I was going to be attacked by rats. Stupid youtube video about a woman being attacked by a group of rats! They were in the ceiling...just inches above my head.

The sound of rats much lower, around foot level, was just ahead of me. There were 3 hefting beefy rats in one of the feed machine's. I managed to shoot one before the others ran off. The one I shot I never actually managed to retrieve. But these things were a good size.

Pop into the open chicken area to find a load of girders on the floor. I manage to bag one rat just as it was heading up the wall on the near corner. A nice blood smear to show a clean shot straight through. As time went by I managed another 2 rats in these girders.

While heading back to the stairs to check downstairs again, I came across a rat that was a little too curious while playing hide and seek. The rat hid. I was seeking. When I found it, it popped it's head right up for around 5 seconds. That was 3 seconds too long. I can't wait to hear about the next person to wash their hands in the sink. Oh I should mention, I shot it behind a load of egg trays just by the sink. It's lay behind the hot water tap. That'll be a nice story to hear about.

A small adventure down into the main part of the farm proved that my memory sucks. House 5 turned out to be....House 5, and not house 2 like I thought. That meant that House 2 was another 80 meters down the path and over to the right. Oops. While walking down I could hear gun shots in the distance.

At H2 I went into the bottom area and bagged a rat. While reloading another 2 rats shot off and got away. Annoyed, but I'm still happy there are so few rats in there. Popped up top and checked that out. Seems I'd done a good job on previous visits.

Back to House 1.

Downstairs I get off 2 shots in the 'hole in the wall' area. As far as I could tell they were clean head shots. Beautiful sound, helicopter tail, the lot. But I couldn't, for the life of me, find the bodies. My next 2 shots were misses. Both were on pretty big rats. So I go back upstairs to try and get one of those big berther's by the feed machines. As luck would have it, one of them is around the bottom of the machines. I line up and get a good impact. The rat drops dead. I'm happy with the shot and the kill. The next thing I know, the rat is being dragged off down a hole in the flooring by another rat!!! What the hell?!?! Are you serious?

Shortly after, I hear that rushing of rats in the pitch black, directed straight towards my head. That sound is properly freaky when it's inches from your face. I am not ashamed to say I got 'fear-goose-bumps' both times that happened.

Back to the scaffolding, another miss. What's going on?! I'm never this bad. I should have been deep into double digits by now.

On the way to the stairs down, a small mouse sized rat pops out from behind some stuff in the back right corner of the egg storage section. One quick snap shot and it's dead. Clean shot. I'm pleased with the shot, but the last few misses made no sense! I had plenty of time to line them up and pull the trigger on a well aimed shot.

I trot about and take the odd shot here and there.

Finish off the session with a definite 11 kill-impacts, but only a handful of retrievable bodies.

Just before I set off, I pull out the snares from my pocket and.....oh wait, I forgot the snares. Embarrassing and frustrating; especially after finding so many good spots to pop them.

I'm heading back down on Sunday evening. Those big rats in house 1 are going to be the focus of my shooting on Sunday.

So the session ended with shots on big rats that I missed, and a few shots on tiny rats that I shouldn't have been able to make. Totally reversed session.

On an up note, I did have fun, and I even saw a shooting star when heading back over to house 1 from house 2. I just doubt my wish for world peace will be happening.
