Something like this I've used. I crimp using pike fishing crimps, and then bend the crimp to get the best closing loop. For squirrels i don't recommend loading the snare. just my own preferance.

The law says target animal should not get hung, but then it's legal to use squirrel poles with snares on.....it's like rabbits caught on a pig mesh fence sometimes they jump about, and go through fence

It's the same with rat bow snaring you need a sapling bent over near the run so when rat gets snared it springs up keeping rat off the ground so in a sence its hung but again not illegal to use bow sn

Good luck with snaring let us know how you get on.....I'm out this weekend hopefully set a few wires for a couple of hares missus wants one for dinner and got a buyer for any more I catch?

Squirrels can't be taken in a bender as there is a section that states snares used to target a certain species must not be capable of lifting them from the ground....

Rats are a totally different kettle of fish as there are no real guidelines, rules or best practice when it comes to snaring them.....

It's all there in black and white for those that are computer savvy enough to find it.

I'm not :(
