Old Vasectomised Hob

Hi all,

I've got 3 young Jill's ( about 5mths old )

And I've just got a rescue hob but I'm not sure how old he is..

I want to get him vasectomised but in all your eyes what is too old for the job??

It's hard to say if he looks old coz he is a bit fin and has a bit of hair loss in his tail..

The thing is I can take him back and get a kit if I want but I wanted a ferret a bit older but not too old and he is a really good ferret , runs round with the girls , doesn't bit.. I've only had him two days and really like him but I need a ferret that's up to the job of doing my 3 Jill and if I keep him il take him ferreting to see how he goes..

 

So what would you say is too old and way I can find out.. I know I can take him to the vet but it's £25 just to see the vet?.

i think with the cost of the vascectomy i would be getting a kit done next year after its stones dropped

I've had a good look at his teeth only one of the little front one missing . Got him out with the Jill's and he is running around with them like he's a kit lol..?

This is what I was thinking , he has got some kits there but not had much handling so not much fun to handle..

Maybe il just give him back and get a kit hob off gumtree ect:

Just a shame as he is a nice ferret with nice big head ..?

I don't think age has to much of a beaing on him being up to the job, known some right randy old goats. The problem is being put under for the op, the older they get there's more of a risk of not coming round, mine was put under when he was 3 and was fine.

My rational thinking say spend £120 getting a kit done you get 10 years of bringing jills out of season works out pennies a jill

 

Spend £120 getting a five year old hob done you get five years of bringing the jills out of season its no so cheap its all down to cost

Wow, is that how much it cost up your way..

Just had a chat with two vet near me , one said £55 and one said £40.

And had one of them take a look at the hob and he thinks the hob is about two or two n half years old but looks older coz he has not been looked after.

So when pay day is here il be booking him in...?

If a hob hasn't been looked after it can defo look a lot older.i picked up a big hob ferret 3 years ago of the side of a very busy road.he looked skinny,scabby and very old.thought he was on his way out.now after 3 years of living in a clean hutch,good diet,and more than his fair share of work and also being responsible for 3 litters,he's now the picture of health,I think he must be about 7ish.he'll defo be working this season and hopefully be lining my best Jill next year.

I've only had him 6 days and he looks a lot better/young already , a lot better on his feet climbing and running about with the kits , the hair on his tail is a bit thin but a lot more alert.

Really happy with him tho and going to take him out ferreting one day next week.?

Goodstuff mate
