chrismdd 787
Got down the river at 8pm in preparation for a late session after some quality roach and to enjoy the night. Started on the tip with corn or flake until the light went then switched to the bobbin. Not a great deal caught but they were in great condition starting off with some lovely dace. Bites were a bit few and far between as the night progressed but it was what was around that made it interesting. Twice I had badgers snuffle up behind me within touching distance and they were not alarmed even when I put the headtorch on dim. Then at one point I was brought to my senses by the screech of a tawny owl in a tree across the river, so sitting there in the dark I took a trick from Simon King and made a squeaking noise. Instantly the owl came over and flapped around above my head only a few feet away before landing in the tree next to me at which point I put the headtorch on and watched him sit there looking over at me. Back to the fishing and the odd bite or two kept me busy. Then a slow steady rise on the bobbin marked the presence of the dreaded crayfish so a half-hearted strike met with the solid thumping of a fish that turned out to be a beautiful roach of around three-quarters of a pound. Then sitting back in the dark I could hear Mr Otter making his way up river so sitting there in the dark I waited until I could just make out the oily swirls on the surface reflecting in the startlight before I switched on the headtorch and was surprised to see him casually swim closer with his eyes reflecting in the torch light. It was only until he was a couple of metres away that he gave a disgruntled snort and splashed noisily away. It was now midnight so time to head home, not much caught but that's only a small part of fishing. 9 Quote Link to post
