Whippet Ignoring Recall - Is He Going Through Kevin & Perry Stage ???

Well my whippet has just turned 11 month, his recall was never excellent but was good but recently he has started ignoring any recall by either calling him or whistle and appears to have selective hearing...

 

I'm wondering if it's just a Kevin & Perry stage he's going through like a teenager and whether he'll grow out of it ???

 

He's also started taking off into woods, hedgerows etc ( I walk him on a nature reserve, huge open fields surrounds by woods etc)

 

I've started to walk away when he ignores me and also was going to start stopping and hiding when he takes off in front of me so to give him a shock that I'm not there but is there anything else I can do ???

 

Any sensible advice would be appreciated...

It's just (as u put it just a kevin/Perry moment) most dogs go through it.

 

Just try to stay calm and he will soon be over it.

It happened to my pup when she was about 7/8months, and is happening again but not as bad at 12month's.

 

So frustrating cos shes not too keen on treats and is a nightmare if somethings got away from her.
