New Dog

Have been after a lurcher for a while, ideally wanted a pup,but I've taken on a two year old whippet greyhound that was in a shit state open wounds on it kennel sores,and severely under nourished, how anyone can let a dog get like that makes me sick.i couldn't leave it there like that so I had it.took it home wormed it, deflead it, put cream on its cuts.only had it two days and it's looking better already took it for a light walk very obedient and it's stock trained.Only problem is its lived in a kennel and I've got it inside so at night its crapped in the house, think that's going to take time to stop it doing that.Any advice on feeding a dog back up would be appreciated want to get some bulk back on it at the moment it looks anorexic.

Pile the raw beef and chicken into it fella add some mixed veg and pasta and you won't go far wrong ... Add a raw egg every couple of days and a tin of sardines a few times a week also ......

Cheers mate, I've bought a bag of dry and got minced chicken in blocks it's had that mixed and iv give it tuna.heard gain 28 is good for getting the conditioning back?

Same as socks get some good grub in to it the thing will soon bulck up

The problem with feeding a high protein dry and meat together is that the dog will struggle to process the extra protein and will expend lots of internal energy getting rid of the excess protein .... So instead of just turning good grub into muscle tendons ligaments bone and general growth the body is working doubly hard to get rid of the protein that it can't process .......

Hi mate. As socks said would be best. Speak to Shaun or Bonz when you see them next they get decent feed from a guy near Mold. The butchers round there should give you some chicken carcass etc. might have to spend a bit at first on the mince but will be worth it!! Where did you find the dog?? Alright geth ye I've got chicken off shaun now for her,and ill get bonzo to get some meat and tripe for me when he goes.Got the dog from Anglesey mate smart looking it's a first cross whippet greyhound, but it's been treated like shit like a bag of bones just got to put the time into her now get her healthy and that. Ye mate come for a look when your down next.

Think its going to take a good while to get her looking good again,she looks like shit at the moment hopefully turn it round though with a decent diet.

thanks mate,shes been worked before like took her for a little walk yesterday and she was in the bushes with the terrier after bunnies jumps well and listens to me ok,so hopefully should turn out alright,just need to get her up to scratch now with her diet and that.

Sad hearing of dogs allowed to get in a bad state like this. .good on you for taking the dog on. .I'd go steady with the exercise for now. .just plenty of good grub and steady walks on lead. .atb sesku

ye i know its bad people treating dogs like shit,i took it for a quick walk last night nothing to heavy.just got to put the time in now and feed her up,shes not long had pups as well think she was just bred from then they binned her off.
