Rowan 308
I advertise as using traditional , humane mole trapping . I only use duffus/tunnel traps and talpex traps. however a lovely lady , I think she lives in Disney world, ( no not really, but),told me today that my traps are not humane as they kill the moles and therefore my advertising is wrong. I tried to explain to her that humane trapping means they do not suffer anymore than is necessary , but she would not have it. I'm sure i'm right , but she has got inside my head and now i'm doubting myself, or am I . What does humane trapping mean to you. Quote Link to post
DIDO.1 22,865
she cant have you done for false advertising if thats what you mean. catch a dozen live ones for her garden, along with a few rats. then forget her and move on. mad cow 1 Quote Link to post
Mr Muddy 141
I think using words like ‘humane’ actually attracts criticism from nutters. If you just say “I catch moles”, then if someone’s got a problem with that it’s their f*****g problem. I you start using words like ‘humane’, ‘ethical’, ‘eco friendly’ you’re inviting the tree-huggers to start picking holes and asking exactly how humane you are.. 1 Quote Link to post
Rowan 308
I thought using the word humane would put peoples mind at ease , I guess you always get one crazy who looks for a meaning that suits them though , I think she thought I would catch them alive and release them in some wooded glade where it was always summer time and all animals co-existed as vegitarians , oh what have I said now , there's nothing wrong with vegitarians , I like lettuce in my BLT. shropshire mole 190
If your traps catch the mole perfectly 100% and death occurs instantly, then yes its humane If however like myself, occasionally a mole it caught by back legs, front claw and then suffers a lingering death, can this be classed as humane!! I can see both sides to this argument Quote Link to post

For now i'm sticking with my humane trapping methods used phrase. Quote Link to post
Mr Muddy 141
You can’t avoid a foul catch one in a while mate. If the mole is pushing dirt or stones in front of him, that’s when I usually see it. IMO talpex are the cleanest and tralines are the worst, but nothing I've tried is 100% I don’t want to put you off, just letting you know what to expect. Quote Link to post
Rowan 308
Thanks , advice taken , will re-think my advertising after all , can't be doing with too much hassle if I can avoid it. Quote Link to post
