Dry Firing A Cz 452.

Recommended Posts

I'm about to pick up a CZ 452 in .22 Hornet, little used and i expect it's in factpry condition i.e. no tuming.

When I'm trying, adjusting the trigger wil I do it any harm repeatedly dry firing? Is there any point in leaving a spent round in the chamber?

Dry firing is usually more damaging in a rimfire rifle however repeated dry firing of a centrefire without snap caps can cause the firing pin to become weak,

Idea being that if it is constantly being over exerted by not finding any resistance from a primer then it will eventually make a weakness in the metal and lead to a broken pin at some point, probably when you need it the most,

However, having said that, I've never known it happen in any of my rifles or those I've shot with to my knowledge, you would probably have to do it a considerable number of times.

If you're going to use once fired cases with the spent primers in, then only use them again once as any resistance will be gone by then.

Dry fire all you like, won't make a jot of difference, what you should avoid is taking everything to 'bits' at every opportunity why some folk

can't resist this I have no idea?

Limit your 'fixing' to cleaning the bore and external parts of the bolt, maybe take the action and barrel out of the stock if it's wet through

then wipe it with a kitchen towel and leave it somewhere dry to finish the drying off.

The rest can look after itself, oh and never smoother everything in oil/grease etc, it's not a tractor or a shovel.
