The Seeker 3,048
It doesn't matter what rifle or calibre or intended use, scope should always be as sensibly close to the barrel as possible. Obviously consideration must be given to practicalities and individual gun fit, that's what sensibly means above. M16.jpg :hmm: I agree Deker as i already said the "fit" to the line of sight through the scope with the eye should dictate the mounts being used not just a blanket advice of "you need to change the mounts mate there too high" 1 Quote Link to post
doie1 22
Thought that would be the case, a little frustrating as the gun shop won't be open now or tomorrow so won't be able to play this weekend. So were the original mounts too uncomfortable to use did you need to lift your head to view the scope or not? No not really I was more concerned about the gap between scope and barrel as I thought this was fairly crucial to get the best from the scope. Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
It does really help and is in your best interest but not necessary mate...tbh I think it's as good as its gunna get on your setup now. Edited August 2, 2014 by celticrusader Quote Link to post

Look at her set up scope and mount Seriously as long as you are comfortable with your set up what it looks like is not important, nor is what height other people say is the correct height. Unfortunately youve lost a weekends shooting. As long as it fits correctly that's the important thing. ATB. Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
Very true...all we can do is point you in the right direction and may work for some does not mean you will find it the best method, if you want to go down one specific route you have options mate. Hasketh hasketh-pritchard is the man who reinvented sniping and saved thousands of lives during the first world war and was responsible for taking more German scalps than any other person...remarkable man who was a known explorer and big game hunter who changed the war in the trenches and as The Seeker has said these people did not have what we have these days...but different times and different circumstances. doie1 22
Finally got round to zero the new scope in, zeroed at 100meters all going well till I ran out of ammo (school boy error) but managed to get my last 4 shots within 1 1/2 inches which were a bit rushed so fairly happy with that for now. abarrett 462
Having the scope as close to the barrel is nothing to do with looks If the scope is high you have to bring the elevation down a lot just to get it level So using up most of the adjustment on your scope before you start It's not to much of a problem on a rim fire or air rifle but a centre fire is a different ball game Because of the distances you want it to perform at Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,960
Dropping your line of sight relative to the barrel by 5mm isn't gonna make a gnats cock of difference to your shooting. Like Seeker says, unless it feels unnatural don't worry about it. Quote Link to post
