chrismdd 787
Just got myself three more ferrets to join the others ready for next season so decided to pop out and get them some fresh food to help them settle in. Went to a barley/grass field that will be cut for silage in the next few days and settled down at the top of the field in a tramline leading to a well eaten 'half-moon. Well is wasn't long before the first bunnies arrived, however due to my concealment three young rabbits came out less than six yards from the end of the barrel. Decided to leave these for the ferreting season and anyway they were too close to focus on so just lay still and watched them play for the next hour whilst waiting for the grown-ups to join the party. Then all three quickly darted into the hedge as a young fox came into the clearing, he never knew I was there and at one point was barely four yards away as he followed the rabbits into the hedge. So decided to up sticks and move out to the pea/barley field that had already been cut. Spotted a lot of rabbits up in the top corner and with about an hour of light left decided to sit it out there for the rest of the evening. Within fifteen minutes the first rabbit bounded out at 20 yards and was so keen to come out he wouldn't stay still so I needed to squeak him to hold still long enough for a clean head shot. Another twenty minutes and bunny number two came out at 25 yards. Aimed for the usual spot just between the eye and root of the ear and let the AA Field on its way. Through the scope there was an eruption of light coloured fluid and the rabbit went down but then started running around so I needed rush out and properly dispatch it. Noticed the pellet had gone a little to the right and hit straight in the eyeball so I guess the pellet on hitting what is essentially a ball of fluid in a hard bone socket the pellet had had a lot of its energy absorbed and failed to provide an immediate clean kill. Light was now fading fast but with the lightness of the fresh cut crop I could still make out rabbits coming out to feed. Eventually one came out at 35 yards and a carefully aimed shot brought him straight down without a kick and pellet had hit the desired spot as intended. Two rabbits for the ferrets and one for ourselves. 4 Quote Link to post

chrismdd 787
Sorry to hear about the leg Timmy, hope it gets better soon. When I went to the cut pea field in the evening just after they cut it there were a few pigeons out feeding on it so I'll try and find time to get up there and have a go soon. You've been doing well on the pigeons looking at your posts on AAOC. I've just got rid of 'rip-off' BT and just switched over to TalkTalk for a lot better service with more features and less than half the price of BT. Unfortunately with TalkTalk Homesafe the AAOC website is blocked as it comes under 'Violence and Weapons' yet this site passes okay . Need to get round to changing the settings then I'll be on AAOC again. Chris Quote Link to post
