celticrusader 78
That was the problem on my first stalk was borrowing someone else's I had not had the chance to get used to it and would prefur to do what i intend to do with my new rifle now. It also had a really touch sensitive trigger...something I dont like. Quote Link to post

shropshire dan 467
You and me both mate Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
At least you know your getting one boys, have you decided what your getting yet tho? Quote Link to post
maktayla 50
Well CC. I'm so glad you asked I want to pick your brains. I would love to buy new, if possible. I have always had second hand and I'm airing on the side of caution when it comes to buying a second hand .22-250. I would, for example, if it was someone on here that is very trustworthy and I could get good feedback from other hunting life members. My money is going up slowly in the bank. I could probably stretch it at £400 at this precise moment in time, but its very difficult if you want a moderator included. I've got the scope and ammo and I'm saving a bit more every week. Its just so frustratingly slow when you have the slot on your ticket but you cannot get the rifle just yet. There are a few rifles I like. One of them is the Browning X-Bolt. Do you know much about them or do you have any suggestions. Sorry, but I am a bit fussy on the looks of my rifle and I don't know what it is, I just do. I do fancy a rifle with a synthetic stock and stainless action/barrel, a heavy varmint barrel would be nice. Sorry, I was starting to dream then Seriously though, any suggestions and help would be great. I know the SGC has the Weatherby's in stock. What extra money would I be looking at for a moderator, ( a good one) to go with that? Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
Tbh mate your doing the right thing, i had a look at the sako's, tikka's and weatherby's and all looked great i guess its on personnel preference, i went for the ruger as it had some attributes i thought would suit me more than the others and was alot cheaper at £550 than £300-800 more like the sako's etc etc, some models are similar price like the howa 1500 i think but just keep saving mate your doing the right thing. My mate shouldve bought a 22lr since he had his granted last year but still hasnt bothered coz of money....go figure hey. Ive been told dont buy 2nd hand unless you know where it's come from, everyone to there own and the confusing thing is there's alot of choice these days from alot of good makes and some are just as good but cheaper, bought my hmr new and ive not regretted it and the same with the ruger....just peace of mind. Bigad 136
Like this gun shop shows prices on web site http://www.kirklees-guns.co.uk/common-sporting-centerfire-ammunition.html Quote Link to post
maktayla 50
Thanks Bigad Its exactly as I was discussing earlier. I know, different shops, different prices but, looking at them prices on the link you sent me, I can't help but think I would have been better buying Hornady VMax. I paid £33.00 a box for Norma. I have been told the brass Norma uses is good for re-loading but, I don't have any plans on re-loading for some time yet. Could be a long time too. If Sports Man Gun Centre sold Hornady at those prices it would save me £13.00 a box. Maybe they do, I will have to check. CelticCrusader: There's so much to choose from. The link Bigad sent above, they have some cheap, new rifles listed. As always though, miles from me. I definately agree with you on the second hand. Makes me nervous. Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
Well if you see something you like mate see if you can have it shipped to your RFD when the time comes mate. Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Id certainly be careful buying a second hand .22-250 Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Calm down boys, lol dont fall into the must have Norma or Lapua brass for reloading, I have used most of them and guess what my favourite is? Federal, I can work up my best handloads for my rifle with it, so there you go another brand to try in your accuracy tests there is absolutely nothing wrong with super cheap ppu brass, in fact I was told that it is the same brass as Lapua(not sure though) Winchester brass is also good as is Hornady, I would steer clear of Remington brass if you can though, if either of you budding reloaders want any help, by all means pm me and I will help you all I can, Norma ammo is very good, but with careful handloading, you can produce superior ammunition at a fraction of the price. maktayla 50
I agree with you Charlie. It's something I will definately be looking into in the not too distant future. The question is: Im not reloading at the moment and I am seeing Hornady prices far cheaper than Norma. Do you think I should go for Hornady? Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
well mate reckons PPU are good so i have to agree with your last paragraph CC and also found federal , winchester and hornady are pretty good brands myself and never been a fan of remington...most of these are in hmr for me though. just got back after my first session down the range at 100m point and quick 6 round try at the 200m point was enough to confirm my happy thoughts on my purchase though. going out soon aswell at a closer indoor range as was abit rushed today but would like the opportunity for the rifle to cool down and take my time abit more just to add the finishing touches. sikastag_1 689
I'm paying £21 a box of sako gameking but I'm only using them because I'm having a bit of bother getting federals normally between £20-£25 a box. Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Yes mate if your rifle likes Hornady, go with them. Quote Link to post
