shropshire dan 467
Hi all, about to get my .22-250 and was wandering what ammo you chaps suggest I try in my rifle? My local stocks all varieties of hornady vmax ammo and can get others brands if I travel further afield. Thanks in advance Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
I would suggest buying a box of whatever your local dealer stocks, one each and try them all. Different manufacturers and bullet weights. Every rifle is different and will like different ammunition, Hornady are a very respected manufacturer and no doubt any round will shoot fairly well in your rifle but there is always one that it will like more. Just an excuse to blat paper Quote Link to post
stando 177
Norma 50 grain v-max, not cheap but very accurate and consistant  Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
I think I'm gunna see what they have most of in stock at time as I'm gunna reload, was gunna buy about 100-150 in one brand at first and some of the hornady varmint range is what I think I'll end up with...I guess I'll see on the day. I wouldn't hedge your bets on just the one brand of ammunition or reloading components without trying out as many as you can find locally first, Reason being that you could end up being lumbered with 100-150 rounds or heads that your rifle really doesn't like which will have cost you £100+ just to sit in your ammo safe. I still have a box of 100 Sierra Varminters sitting there that the rifle will chuck out like ratshot from when I first started reloading. Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
Very true but I have the intention of putting the rounds down the range regardless, I might go through a few boxes of varying brands just to test out which is better. But if I'm reloading then would you suggest that I should concentrate on find what specific load would be better than brand? Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
As SS says try a few different types and see which groups best in your rifle, check out what components you have locally for reloading, most importantly powder, if you want any reloading advice, just ask buddy Quote Link to post

Definitely, Once you find that load, whatever make of components, stick to it like glue Quote Link to post
