Me and my brother Popped out for just over an hour with the 17hmr and o/u had a great time bagged 9 rabbits in total 8 with the rifle and one fantastic 40yrd shot with the shotty as mr rabbit was in full stride! Only 6 in the photo as the others were a little messed up. post-94598-0-42380800-1404336301.jpg

Just got back. Only bagged 4 rabbits. Seen 2 fox but stayed out of range of thr hmr at around 150yards I wasn't happy taking the shot because of long grass I'd of had to take a standing or kneeling shot at that range I'd og been happier with a .223 and off sticks or bipod

Happy days CC plenty of time to bag some lol. Going to look at some more .223 rifles next week and maybe go the local range and try a few out will probably sell the hmr after i get the .223 as i'll rarely have a use for it. If i do sell it i'm going to put in for a second .22LR and get a cz452 synthetic as a night setup and keep the trusty old Brno as a day setup. Can't wait to get the .223 though as in theory i should bag alot more charlies as on most of my land they sit just short of 200 yards. What i try to do is call the foxes and if they don't come close enough for the hmr i leave a rabbit so when i go they come and have a free meal and hopefully they associate the fox call to a dinner bell lol. (That's the plan)

I think it may work as they are clever and will soon realise the call is dinner. Will probably take a few times to acheive. Im gonna bag a couple rabbits in freezer then go and sit out on a nice evening without gun call for 30-60 mins then leave a rabbit

I read an article about using a cheap battery alarm clock, tieing some fishing wire around the battery and on the other end tieing it to a rabbit, so when Charlie takes the rabbit he pulls the battery out which in turn tells you what time he has been, do this over a couple of nights and you will get a rough idea of when Charlie comes out to feed then you can wait in the hedge for him and give him more then just a rabbit.

Ha ha that alarm clock method sounds like a great idea and seems like fun putting such skills to practice on how to trap the illustrious gits...kinda regretting not buying more hmr ammo now as I've put in for a .243 coz I'm running low on it and will have to revert back to .22lr for bunnies soon.

On my mates permission we were on last Saturday the farmer said good ole Charlie if he does turn up says he never bothers with the rabbits..but then who can turn down a free meal hey ;)
