skycat 6,174
Dogs don't actually need to eat biscuits (complete food?) if you are feeding a balanced raw diet, and pups, like a lot of small children, don't always want to eat their veg Steam the veg and mash it: it will not have such a strong taste as it does raw, and you only need a teaspoon of veg per meal for a pup of this age. What sort of veg are you using? I stick to lightly cooked carrots, peas, spinach at this age. Celery and green cabbage have a very strong taste. Feed a variety of meat: tripe, minced beef, chicken wings (whole), the occasional bit of cooked liver, tinned sardines a couple of times a week, and try giving the pup a hard baked dry bread crust to chew on between meals: make sure it is good quality brown bread with as few additives as possible. Try adding boiled rice to the meat as well for carbs. Make sure the pup is getting enough fat too, though most commercially minced tripe for sale for dogs is very fatty. Quote Link to post
Bshafto 34
Tried that roybo but no joy, gunna try changing his buscuits to see if i can entice him Quote Link to post
Bshafto 34
Cheers skycat, ive been trying him mainly with brocolli carrots, then chicken wings and thighs, beef mince, heart and some tinned mackerel. Think i'll try steaming it like myou say and maybe try spinach or green beans. I'll try and leave biscuits out and start using rice ? Quote Link to post
roybo 2,873
I always use the left overs from the Sunday lunch mash it up or blend it with gravy then freeze Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,739
Got an 11 week old beddy grey, when i got him he was on chudleys buscuits, i slowly got him on to veg n meat and he was doing really well plenty of energy and a really good coat. Problem now is he refuses to eat any veg or biscuits he only wants to eat meat, ive tried blending it but still no joy At this stage of the pup's life,..I would forget trying to feed some perfectly balanced menu which includes various greens, etc, etc..These ingredients are good things, but can be slowly introduced when he is keener on his scran. Instead,..concentrate on getting the youngster onto plenty of MEAT,..preferably raw, varied as you can. Get him enjoying his grub and eating like a ravenous Wolverine.. Throw the biscuits out for the birds,..feed the young predator on chicken, beef, lamb and plenty of oily fish.. Think of the future,..'Ye reap what ye sow'.... 8 Quote Link to post
beast 1,884
personally i wouldnt worry too much about the veg as long as the pup gets plenty of VARIED meats ( as phil says above) i also wouldnt worry too much about the rice, yes it is a good source of carbohydrate, but fat is an even better energy source, and as long as the meat you give has plenty of fat then the pup will be fine. fish is good, and the occasional egg, and a teaspoon of cod liver oil will do no harm, plus a little bit of liver a couple of times a week Quote Link to post
