matt1982 0
Hi, I've recently purchased a Browning T-Bolt .22LR Target/ Varmint with 16.5" barrel. I have been looking at sound moderators for it. I have heard good things regarding the Hogan Decimeater. Does anyone have any other recommendations on any decent ones on the market? Thanks. Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
I've always found SAK mods fine for rimfires. My son has an ASE which is excellent too. Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
I have a hogun decimeater on my hmr and its great. A little heavy compared to a SAK but durable and easy to strip. Not a lot quiter than the sak but nice solid mod imo Quote Link to post
mad4it 693
ive got a parker hale on my .22rf which is a slim line model and that's quite I also have got a sak as well they both quite, I think it down to each person preference Quote Link to post
Rimfireboy! 1,463
I've got an A-tech and it's very good, they're about £60-£70 ish though. Excellent performance but not the cheapest out there. 1 Quote Link to post
matt1982 0
Thanks for all the feed back. I have been doing a bit of re-search on the NET and i've seen a lot of very good comments come back on the Swift Precision Stumpy, I think i might try a few on my rifle and see what weight i prefer. There doesn't seem to be much in it on the Rim fire Moderators, i am sure it's a different league with the centre fire rifles. Thanks again. Quote Link to post
Cedric 132
I was out last night with a Swift Precision Stumpy on my Ruger 10/22 and thought it could have been quieter but it's difficult to tell with the bolt noise, so this morning I tried it on my Anshutz 1417 and compaired it to a SAK. There was not much difference except the Swift had a little more 'crack' than the SAK, which was slightly duller. The Swift is very well engineered and shorter than the SAK but that's all I found in the difference. The Swift Nightingale ( which I have in .17 ) is a different kettle of fish, excellent performance, takes away virtually all of the muzzle blast. Quote Link to post
Alsone 789
Don't know if this helps but Uttings Guns have done a back to back testing of most popular moderators on a range in both .22 subs, mini mags and HMR and rated them: On .22 Order of merit (purely on sound moderation): Stated to be way ahead of others: Ase Utra Scores 10 Swift Stumpy Scores 9.5 Others: Hushpower Bobcat Scores 8 Swift Nightingale Score not mentioned but said to be similar to Bobcat Scirrocco II Scores 7 Third Eye Matrix Overbarrel Scores 6 Third Eye Matrix Compact Scores 5 Then rated for other considerations later in the video (not copied here). Overall Precision Stumpy heavily favoured as best due to it's size, lack of weight and cost. On .17 HMR Order of merit (purely on sound moderation): Stated to be way ahead of others: Ase Utra Swift Precision Full Size Swift Stumpy Others: Swift Nightingale Hushpower Bobcat Third Eye Matrix Overbarrel Third Eye Matrix Compact Scirrocco II (PS I disclaim any errors in reproduction of the results - watch the video!)
