Recommended Posts

Would appreciate some advice please just bought 2 kits 9 weeks old. While at the breeders house we held stroked both kits for a while you could see they had been well handled and in good health and conditions they was kept in was brilliant. We arrived home and has expected they were very nervous and taking them out of the transport box one screamed and went and bit in fear.poor things such a big change for them. Reading the books ive bought there is

Well what a difference 48 hours makes handled them yesterday 4 times put them in box in the house gave them a chicken wing and stroked them while eating. After they had eaten just picked them up put back down and picked up again did this for 15 minutes each time. Did same again today had no bitting at all still a little nervous when hand goes to pick them up for 1st time they obviously wriggle around but seems like I am on the right track anymore tips guys do you think 4 to 5 10 to 15 minutes is enough to get them really tame .?

Cheers

Just handle them properly hand round there shoulders there front legs between your first two fingers and thumb on the back of there neck and run your other hand right down there body it comforts them and they will soon stop wriggling

Personally i would do 10/15 mins several times a day.Rub there tummy's talk to em,feed them by hand, put them on your lap, pick em up put em down,if the weather and space allow- in time introduce them to pipes /logs in the garden let em explore be calm and soft spoken always. If you get a nip gently open there mouth and put your knuckle inside it wont hurt!! your find after a short while there try and push ur knuckle out with there tongue .Love, good food, fresh water, and patience is all it takes. The first 3 months of a ferrets life are critical and if you can keep going for 6 months even better.Like many things in life you only get back what you put in! Good luck

Good sensible advice from Vanman there.. :clapper:

Facts are,..the very best working ferrets,..the ones that we all remember and talk about,..even after they have long gone,.. generally have a welcoming tameness,.. with a kitten -like, inquisitive nature and possessed of a friendly demeanour..
