Waz 4,293
Going to view a tractor tipping trailer tomorrow, and wanna pick anyones brains who is clued up on agri fabrication stuff.. Its originally a muck spreader that has been shortend, takes 2m3 of wood so maybe 3 ton? Its tipping mechanism of a ford tipper, with big starte thickness cables to goto tractor battery, and trailer electric plug for solenoid. Had a chat and it can be fitted with hydraulic hose to go straight to tractor hydraulics, which my tractor has (2 hydraulic connections on the back). This my major query, it sounds right, but is there any snags? Its 300 euros, which is negotiable, he's an hour away but happy to deliver it to me after viewing. Seller says, if I dont need some part of the hydraulics set up (as I have hydraulics on tractor), he will take off and make himself a splitter and adjust the price. Am I better of leaving as is? As you can see I know not very much and although the fella is knowledgable and seems dencet, I dont want to end up with a nightmare or expensive bit of scrap. If it helps I might be able to upload the photos of it here. Edited May 1, 2014 by GD Waz
leegreen 2,247
Look for oil leaks, rust and try not to tip it on a hill . Other than that just look at the general condition. Has it an electric hydraulic pump?
Chid 6,794
See how much he will knock you off it , if he takes all the electric stuff away , all you need is the ram and a pipe running from it to your single acting valve. (You'll probably have to get one made up) Just check for oil leaks round the ram and it coming down on it's own and make sure the rest looks safe to use

Also that at full extent, it is straight. Check the welding is sound on the ram supports too and that the motor isn't winning its knackers off and and sounds consistent. He said Ford tipper, assumed tranny? To be honest was looking for a trailer and thought it#d cost 300 euro upwards, fact its a tipper its worth the hour plus to go and have a look. He said 250 if he takes the electric stuff off, but wondering if its an advantage for me to leave it on as if im on the flat ground can move it about with L200? say for example the tractor is awaiting a part - now I say it its unlikely..? Fella is a blacksmith so imagine welding will be good, but will check. Thanks for the advice fellas. Will feedback. But for the money and where I am, in my mind ive bought it LOL. Will try and get a deal, but he is willing to deliver it the hour each way journey so maybe not much room for manouvere on the price.
Waz 4,293
Well, I declined. Trailer base solid enough, tipping body needed tidying, electrics was twisting wires together...Jockey wheel handle bust off, & the leg bent up son apart from lifting the wheel up after youve hitched - no adjustment until fixed.. probably nice project for someone with a bit of time. He had the hose to connect onto tractor hydraulics. I might regret it but heavy lump and with 2 cube of firewood in and the inclines at mine to bring it up to the house....only got 35hp tractor. Got 1st refusal on a 8x4 galvanised car trailer in a few months or so, be a handier option. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
