chrismdd 787
Went out for a couple of hours this evening up at the copse. Got to the first field before the copse and spied a nice adult rabbit five feet out from the hedge 30yds away. However, there was a hedge between me and the rabbit that allowed a bit of cover to get closer but then I had to do a bit of shifting position to find a suitable clear gap through. Headshot and ran five yards out into the field and dropped dead. Collected him and headed to the copse, settled down in my usual place back against a tree with some fallen branches in front and waited.Within five minutes a couple of amorous rabbits were chasing each other around in circles in front of me at about 25yds. Unfortunately they failed to settle down and apart from a couple of stops to get their breath back they headed off for a bit more privacy. Whilst waiting tried out the various settings on the scope (illuminated reticle and different focuses) to get the best set-up for the rapidly fading light in the copse. Then I spotted a lone adult rabbit out feeding just 22yds away, lined up the cross-hairs and squeezed the trigger, the rabbit just looked up , cocked and fired again, same result then I noticed the freshly broken twig in my cover a couple of feet away. Shifted slightly to the left reloaded and fired a third time, the rabbit just dropped a perfect clean shot.Retrieved this one and had a fifteen minute wait before a spied a another way round to my right at 30yds, took awhile to re-position but got a nice clean head shot but unfortunately he kicked himself down a hole beyond reach. With little light left to see clearly through the scope I headed out of the copse back to where the first rabbit was shot only to find half a dozen youngsters out. Wouldn't normally bother with the young-uns but I needed to discharge the rifle and it would be welcome ferret food, so one more in the bag.One picture from the wood with the offending twig:Chris 2 Quote Link to post
