I HAVE A COUPLE OF DUCKS WHO SUPPLY ME WITH EGGS NOW THE ODD ONE HAS BEEN DISAPPEARING FOUND AN EGG ABOUT FIFTEEN FOOT AWAY FROM HER NEST THE END HAD BEEN OPENED AND THE INSIDES EATEN THINKING IT COULD BE THE TERRIER OR COULD IT BE SOMETHING ELSE(SORRY ITS IN THE WRONG PLACE)

If the ducks laying point is exposed to the air, mate? Looking at that egg, I'd suspect a corvid.

I'm with Ditch on this one. Looks like a magpie or crow to me. The small entrance hole is classic

I don't get any Crows in the backgarden and very rarely Magpies

Wouldn't know what else to suggest then, mate. But I'd still say corvid. Probably a magpie.

 

They hardly go out of their way to announce their presence, when hunting. And they'd find any nest a lot better than you or I.

that egg has bin broken on the end , no self respecting corvid is going to stab at the end of an egg, because it takes a fair bit of force to smash into a duck egg and the egg would just move as it was whacked, all corvids smash eggs by hitting them in the middle and at the top so the force is stopped by the ground it is sat on , unless its bin laid end up , highly unlikely

 

most small mammals will chew at the pointed end of an egg, so its more likely to be a hedgie , rat or stoat

how about a grey squirrel .i have seen one about a month ago in my back garden and for the egg to be so far from the nest (just wandering)

well she,s stopped laying for a couple of weeks i have taken what eggs were left very tastey to my wife reckons its the terrier im open minded but next time there will be traps out(i take it the grey squirrel is a no no)

i caught 2 at the start of the year left the trap out till about a month and a half ago not a sign but i will get the trap back out and get another made from a design out of the trap book i bought off john b
