When And How Often Do You Feed Your Dog?

Recommended Posts

I know it sounds like a dumb question

I fed mine once a day and usually in the evening. I'd rather feed him twice a day but I found he wouldn't eat his kibble in the morning, sometimes he would pick at it so it got impossible to have a routine of two smaller meals a day.

I assume it's probably because he just doesn't like it. Now we're switching over to raw I'm going to try two meals a day again but I was wondering what everyone else does.

Last night I tried him on 1KG of minced beef with a smashed up egg and a chicken drumstick and he demolished it in a few seconds and then followed me round the whole evening so he obviously thought he'd been treated ha ha.

Cheers

Nick

Thanks Socks

He's around 33-34 Kg and I understood he was supposed to get 3-5% of his body weight. Is 1 Kg too much?

This was just the first time, he would regulate his own intake of the kibble because he clearly doesn't like it so I never had to bother with weighing his food before.

All dogs are different mate if he isn't overweight on it and he has plenty of stamina then it must be right .... Dogs that I have had that size have only needed 1 1/2 lbs of meat a day ... But as I said all dogs are different .......

Thanks again.

Got some stuff from the farmshop which looks pretty good, its got offal and bone mixed in with the mince so it saves a lot of hassle for me.

His crap today was pretty disgusting and a bit slimy hopefully that will change!

my two big dogs are just under 70lb a piece they have half a kilo of minced chicken and added pasta as a main meal and a piece of lamb back/rib or bone of some description at some point during the day. a couple of times a week they get whole carcass, rabbit/hare/deer or whatever i have in the freezer instead of the mince and pasta.

Thanks guys

I see why socks was so surprised. I just gave my dog 1/2 a KG of the minced beef I got from the farm shop padded out with a little pasta, it's miles bigger than the 1 KG of finely ground mince I got from the shop and it's taking him a while to get through it as well.

looks like this whole raw food diet is nowhere near the pain in the arse I thought it would be. Only thing I need to remember is to get it out to thaw in advance, mind you he'll happily eat bones straight from the freezer.
