Who Needs Nets When You Got Fly? Video Clips

Recommended Posts

I like going commando style with no nets... sometimes you win..lots of times you lose..but its much more fun.

It can also be a bit tricky if your dogs trying to grab em down the holes before they bolt that they will turn and face their chances with the ferret and end up balled up block ended, requiring a digging out.

On the other hand if you have the dog trained like a robot etc etc to sit where you want it to and stay there..The dog could have been parked up in the wrong place for the bolting rabbit... and therefore at a disadvantage.

You will get differences of opinion on this one Rew..

I like the dog to work the warren and do its own thing,Because no matter how many times i think I know better and tell it to be here, there,or anywhere ... it always proves me wrong.

You cant beat it, my best day last year was on my birthday, went out with no nets and my bitch managed 5 of a hedge and 1 from a field. I was only out for a few hours. I was over the moon. She came close to catching a field one today. Two bolted out the same hole at the same time, why didn't i put nets down. She managed two strikes but each time it dodged out of the way and made it to another warren. Wish we had more open sets like this one.

I also like to leave them to figure things out for themselves but I will position mine if it can help. for example when I ferret an hedge I will position her inside an hedge downwind and then stand up wind of a warren and usually I find the rabbits will bolt away from me and towards the dog. As long as they are not on a slip ay .

Good to watch, I don't use nets when out on my own, primarily totry and give the dog a run or two. Different if you've got pest control to do but as for sport I'd say it's probably the best. Atb Joe

Thanks mate, much more satisfying when you catch.

I used to love bolting to the dogs normally a tunned dog anticipates a bolt and will here the rabbits thumping round the holes I used to love it watching the dog crash through cover trying to catch a hole hoper or pulling 1 out the ground with the ferret on the other end and some brilliant little courses

Well stop fanying around ,,, and take her to the dog I told you too,,,,your looking around for the perfect, percentage of this cross and that cross,,,, rather than getting the dog that would correct her weakness ,,,,,

You know I'm right

I just wished I had a car 5 years ago, she would have always been fit and less likely to have had the injuries shes recieved. Until now I have had to go to the same places with hardly any game available, certainly not enough to keep her ticking over. With a good hour walk away from these local fields, I honestly can say once or twice a week was enough for me and that wouldn't necessarily mean we see much worth running.

I was fortunate enough to go to the dales with tomo on 3 occasions where she did well on the lamp. Then back on home ground, 5 rabbits and a couple hares a week wouldn't of kept any dog in working condition.

Any pics of your old man dog?

I want a dog that's capable to run on the bigger fields daytime. I like the idea of a deer x grey over her, is that snipe dog up for stud do you know?

That's my point,,, you like the idea of a deer grey across it,,,, but you don't know any or seen any work,,,and by the way there's no deerhound in snipe,,,, he's collie grey and saluki grey,,, that would be a good stud for her if Jim would let you use him,,, but he's old now,,,,
