Eight people arrested for deer poaching

TH1_209200725deer.jpg Thursday, 9.10am - Eight people were arrested on suspicion of deer poaching near Colsterworth in the early hours of Monday.

A member of the public called police at about 1.30am after spotting two vehicles in a field in Honey Pot Lane.

Officers went to the field, but found the vehicles had already left the area.

A search was made and a silver Mitsubishi L200 pick-up truck and a white Subaru Legacy Estate, both containing four people, were stopped on the A151 near Grimsthorpe.

Seven men and one woman, all from the Barnsley area of South Yorkshire, were arrested on suspicion of poaching.

All eight were later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Lincolnshire Police wildlife crime officer Pc Bryn Parry said: "We have seen an increase in the number of reports of illegal hunting and coursing of animals such as hares, deer and badgers in the last six weeks since the farmers have harvested their fields."

All that polava over poaching :icon_eek:

Heres a tale from a few years ago.....me and my wife and three friends were out polishing ours dogs tracking for competition in the dark (this improves your line handling and trusting the dog), anyway we were on a public footpath about 2200 at night and had been tracking for an hour when we were aware of the police helicopter above us, we carried on but noticed two dog vans, a panda car and police transit (half full) shadowing us from the road. We got to the gate and were stopped and asked what we were doing as a member of the shoot had reported us for hare coursing (we had a Border collie and two German Shepherds with us  ). I was sat in the back of a squad car whilst they checked my reg and details. I was amazed at the ammount of police that turned up, not to mention the cost..............
