Anyone Have A British Pest Manual They Want To Sell?

Recommended Posts

Legislation and Best Practice is changing on a weekly basis.

Any old second hand manual is likely to have out of date information.

Put your hand in your pocket and buy a new one, especially if you are after it to help you pass the RSPH exam.

That's was going to be my second question ' how old is it? ' yeah I'll have to pay out the oner for if, can't blame a man for trying to get it cheaper

No, you can't blame a man for trying.

The thing is, when you buy a new one you get free updates for a year....

Business is business I understand and accept that, but the Manual is simply a money making scam, there is money to be made charging a sensible price for it, I know of at least one National Pest Control company who have historically (and as far as I know still do) refuse to buy their technicians a copy due to cost!

Not in my time Deker me ole mucker!

To my mind, any company that isn't prepared to invest £100 or so to help educate and inform their employees is a disgrace.

Yes, I agree, it is quite expensive I suppose.... but then, what price to you put on a good reference book? It's pretty much essential reading if you want to pass the RSPH, and having a copy in the van to remind you of the theory when you are on call outs is pretty handy.

Added to that, quite alot of work went into it by different authors, and I suppose they deserve to earn an honest crust the same as the rest of us.

Hi Matt

I still don't have one, never have had and I passed the BPCA/RSPH nearly 6 years ago.

My point was that if they actually made it a bit cheaper then they would probably sell more, therefore making more money.

Seems to me lots of it was simply tacky photocopies anyway, and of course pesticides/insecticides, tools, legislation, ideas, treatment methods, etc etc change.

It certainly can be useful and I'm sure a current version would help anyone to get through the course, but it has a shelf life anyway!

Go ahead and try to shoot me to shit for saying this. But; The best Manual I've ever seen is the Rento' one.

Legislation is desert sand. Ever shifting and changing. AI's are primary school stuff. Easily learned and retained. I guess, easily presented in a nice little book. With illustrations of rats and mice, in colour.

But, f**k me; Explaining the names of the various bits of architecture that pigeons are shitting all over? What sized screw to fix a fly screen with? Shit to That depth of level? It's also the physically thickest, by far, manual I have.

If I didn't already have it? Knowing how good it is, I'd happily pay a ton for a scan!

(And, no. This isn't a crafty advert. Scanning all that lot would take me that long, I'm really not interested in spending days, for a mere hundred quid!)

One to covet though .....

I've got to agree with you Pete; this is certainly a 'must have' for anyone starting out in the industry.

At the end of the day, it's £100. That's a couple of nights on the beer, or a tank of diesel.... and what do you get out of it? Potentially the ability to help you earn thousands.

Part of the problem is that the market for this type of publication is quite small. I pride myself on having a pretty good pest control library, and I've paid much more for some of the vintage text books.

Yes its expensive and yes the H & S, the legislation and the use of pesticides are always changing, but its great for revising on the biology on a certain pest you haven't dealt with before or for a long time. It's great to have in the back of the van as an index.

As a "professional" you should take it upon yourself to have a periodic check with HSE about the changes. And done in 30 seconds!! easy peasy.

Can I ask why you need the manual? If theres something in particular you need let me know.
