Tyla 3,179
Herdwick and I took the dogs for a mooch this morning. We were supposed to be ratting a pub but the place wasn't really do able until cleared out a bit so we arranged a return trip next week, picked up the rest of his pack and took a walk on the farm. I only had Ollie with me as Willow is out of action and my wife had taken the other two out thinking I was ratting. We had Ollie, all herdwicks Russell bitches and only one lurcher, Midge the beddy whippet grey. We have left the farm alone for a while as there aren't many rabbits and what was there were a new breed of super rabbits, trained to avoid Sunday mornings, leaving cover or co operating in any way! This morning we must of taken them by surprise as not only were there some above ground but they obligingly bolted from bush to bush and gave some cracking sporting runs for Midge! With more lurchers we probably would have caught more, as Midge could only be in one place at once, but what we missed will be there for another day. We ended up with one for Midge, coursed and caught between the hooves of some bemused cattle, and one caught in the bushes and retrieved out by Trilby. I thought we were on for a third but Midge tumbled on the turn and lamed herself a little bit so we called it a day. Great fun and as usual I forgot about pictures and only took two! Its been quite a busy weekend for me, out with hounds first thing yesterday, managed to get to the shoot in time to beat on the last drive and get fed afterwards in the afternoon and went for a shine last night. Ratting and bushing this morning followed by prepping all the rabbits and a brace of pheasant this afternoon! Lazy evening tonight I think! Quote Link to post

Mick C. 229
Done same thing. Rabbits bolting out of cover think it must be a bit to wet in them burrows Quote Link to post
herdwick 52
I think we were right in thinking she took a knock when she fell over trying to take that 3rd rabbit. I will let her take things easy for the next 2 or 3 days, just in case, but she seems ok now. Hopefully Willow will be sound for next week, although with the rain we have had tonight we might be better getting water wings for the lurchers and snorkels for the terriers!! Quote Link to post
