Ideation 8,217
I know a farmer that saw a couple of lads with dogs on his land poaching and he shot both the dogs with a rifle whilst they were still on the slips,, not fair on dogs but the lads shouldn't of been on there That farmer would be in serious trouble, losing his fac and answering some awkward questions to the police! 1 Quote Link to post
Derek1962 50
Most farmers turn a blind eye to you poaching the odd night on their land,BUT,there are a lot that dont want you near their land and worse of all they dont want dogs upsetting their livelyhoods, for years you could enter any mans land for a hunt, for a dig,a bit of ferretting, and a good nights lamping, and farmers would either leave you to it or tell you politly to go and not come back, but times have changed,a lot hads happened in the last 20 years, you could fall and break a leg on land weather you had permission or not and end up claiming of his insurance and getting a big lump sum,or other things that would happen was lads would lamp land and have one eye on the game they were hunting and the other eye on the farmers homes, one night there would be lamping their land and the next night they would be robbing the houses and barns.a farmer would wake up in the morning and find stuff gone missing or parts gone off his tractors,so hen they had to make drastic measures, and it meant staying up all night every night till these people were caught,a lot of farmers in rural areas suffered most for a lot were living alone so they were prone to be robbed,a case comes to mind a few years ago in Mayo [ireland],a farmer returned to him home one afternoon and found a traveller rooting out his house,so he went in his shed and returned with a legally held shotgun and shot the trespasser as he was trying to make escape and then reloaded and killed him dead, the farmer was charged with murder which was later cut down to manslaughter, but the whole country was in uproar,as to why this poor farmer had to be charged with this crime as he was only protecting his property, every farmer for miles around came out in support of this farmer,he was sentenced, but he only don 9 months in prison and was released on appeal, the farmers around Mayo could sleep in peace for the times were about to change, for in their views they could and were going to protect their property no mater what,.....there was a lot of good doers that said this traveller should,nt of been shot in cold blood,he had a wife and a young family but this traveller had caused havoc around Mayo and he prayed on these single farmers,..have to say since this traveller was shot you could leave your doors open at night around Mayo and nobody would bother your homes[i think a lot of farmers in that area were trigger happy],then only last year the laws of Ireland were changed, not if someone breaks into your property, you have the right to protect your property and family with reasonable force,so going back to farmer protecting their livelyhoods, and shooting dogs on their lands, farmers have had it up to their necks with guys leaving gates open, ewes aborting their lambs with dogs running through them while out lamping or dogs that are not stock steady,or holes dug on their lands and not filled in or having their homes ransacked while they were out tending their livestock,....i know a few farmers that if they wanted they would shoot dogs on their lands weather they be with someone or not,and these men wouldnt be farmers i would like to go up against, rather have them as friends rather than enemies. 3 Quote Link to post

I think its the same farmer that saw a gnat annoying his prize bull,at 500 yards the farmer shot the gnat in flight, shot 2 dogs on slips, seriously you need to start writing for Glover, another bullshitter. budgie123 163
A farmer shot 3 dogs some years ago on the edge of my village 2 were on the leads at the side of their owners and the third was shot after it had run an hare. One dog was not killed straight away but died the next day This was some years ago pre ban. Every one thought all hell would break loose one of the dogs owners was a real character but both parties agreed to drop charges. I asked a friend who was a police man how the farmer managed to keep his gun licence. The dogs were shot with a bullet gun from some considerable distance. He said friends in high places. Needless to say he had no more trouble with hare coursing. Quote Link to post

DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
If I was caught, I'd take a couple of slaps like a man. (if I couldn't talk my way out) . If my dog was shot, I would make the man regret it. Proper regret it. For years. The only way I would let someone off such a thing, would be if my dog was chasing stock.... Quote Link to post
