Gaz_1989 9,539
It's hard to say. Generally people say Hobs are more prone to killing below due to their size and strength. But my mate who I ferret with a lot has got a small Jill. Last season she was fantastic. Bolting them left right and centre. This season she has decided to start killing. Literally every set we are digging down to her and she is on a bunny dead or nearly dead. Just try them and see mate. 1 Quote Link to post
onthehunt 40
All my workers have been hobs never used jills even though mates swear by them more built for the job etc. Some have better experiences with hobs some with jills. I think it all depends on the ferret rather than gender when it comes to working ability. also my hobs never kill! I have 4 at the moment. my past ones have couple of times though. Quote Link to post

Out of interest will the castrated Hobs live happily together year round? From a ease of keeping point of view they have gotta be the easiest to keep. No seasons, no smell (well less smell) and in theory no fighting? Quote Link to post
stubby 175
I too have worked only hobs in the past, sometimes you need to put a few down as they are slower, but the rabbits dont half run when they see them Quote Link to post

Yes, they really do! people i know keep them as family pets always have them neutered and they tend to be cuddled together all the time smell is different and not offensive like a normal hob very tolerable in the home. but there are negatives with neutering with regards to health the biggest problem being adrenal disease whether done earlier or later in life and then there are weight problems. Not saying all will put on weight but most family pets turn into whales Quote Link to post
The one 8,563
I work a couple of hobs in the larger sandy warrens of a couple of permissions , but i still prefer the ten jills for the rest i dont rate there working ability any better or worse than my jills but when your digging down and you open a pipe thats a yard across if a jill gets pulled about your struggling to get the rabbit without digging another hole and with my bigger hobs you dont have too they never let a rabbit move them a inch , but on other permissions there no suited to work there 1 Quote Link to post
