My First Ferreting Trip

Recommended Posts

So I decided that it was time to take my young ferrets out. I have just started this year so this was the ferrets and my first time. The majority of the holes are either in the wall or hedges so it makes netting up a bit of a nightmare.

Selected a warren that was in a gorse hedge line, that had about 8 holes (smallest warren I could find). Dropped the albino hob into a hole and within a couple of minutes he bolted a rabbit out into a net. Entered him into another couple of holes but nothing, so I swapped him for a Jill. Entered her a couple of times but nothing happened and they looked uninterested so didn't want to push them to hard on their first outing.

Moved on to another similar warren and after getting scratched and stung to bits, setting the nets, I entered the smaller Jill. Again within a couple of minutes she bolted a decent sized rabbit and while I dispatched the rabbit and reset the net, she had dropped into another hole and flushed another out. She is the most timid out of my 3 ferrets but was right up for it and was swinging from the rabbits.

I know it's not huge numbers, 3 in total, but 2 hours flew past and I am hooked. Sorry for what is probably a boring write up, next time I'll get some pictures. Thanks to everyone who contributes to the forum you have helped to get me up to this point.
