perthshire keeper 1,239
The most important thing is to know when you are out of your depth.... 100% ive been stitching things up for a long time i got showen how to stitch a cow up after cesarean by a vet. and have been fixing up sheep and hounds for as long, ive seen some lads who try and fix every thing them self's, if your ever unsure about any thing get it to the vets! stevemac 445
if its just a cut or tear in the skin then the staples do fine if its in an area that moves a lot Ill stich it. but if its into the mussel or flesh below then its off to the vet. 1 Quote Link to post

bullmastiff 615
With Superglue, you've got to watch out which type you use nowdays. I know everyone always points out that it was used for sticking G.I's back together in Vietnam so will be fine to use but Technology and the use of new and more efficient chemicals have moved it on a lot since then. Making them faster curing, stronger etc. and most Superglues can cause more harm than good, giving chemical burns to the tissue it's in contact with and is also now classed as a medium risk irritant (we have to get COSHH sheets in for it at work now) If you want to use glue on skin then buy the proper stuff. Nexaband, Vetbond, dermabond etc. are all based on the original forms of Cyanoacrylate so won't produce the intense heat during their exothermic reaction with water. If your unsure look at the back label. Your looking for 2-octyl or n-butyl Cyanoacrylates. Anything else and although it will hold the wound shut, it'll burn the wound tissue and can itch like buggery apparently! 1 Quote Link to post
