Recommended Posts

hi guys

Recently got a young ferret off my mate I have tried to introduce it to my older ferrets. This is where the problems start... my older ferret is dragging it into there box constantly and the kit is screaming :( is there anyway I can stop this?? And my other ferret is doing the same but by the ear or whatever they can get hold of ?? Of there is anyway I can stop this then please tell me ??

Thanks in advance, george :)

  • Put them in cages where they can see each other but not get at each other.
  • Put Olive oil on the back of their necks. Encourages them to lick each other and bond, not bite.
  • Just keep them separate.
  • If there is no damage being done, leave them to it, it's likely to be a pecking order thing.

All suggestions you are likely to receive. We can't actually comment without seeing the extent of how bad they are with each other. Hope this helps,

Introduce them on neutral ground outside the cage and see how they get on. You will get dragging about, as they are sorting the pecking order out and as long as there is no blood it should settle down in a day or 2. I recently got 2 new 11 week old jill kits and they are in with my 3 hobs and other jill and ive had no problems

It ain't a pecking order issue if there dragging and not fighting its the Jill's hormones making them want to mother the kits if you've got a spare hutch I'd keep the kits until they are a bit bigger they sometimes do it with adult Jill's but they are normally big enough to sort it out

Aye its the jills hormones running ragged thinking its her kit and keeps dragging back into the nest best splitting it up till its bigger and can handle itself . or if you can put bitter apple on its neck and put a pipe in the hutch it can go into and the jills wont fit to give it a break and some peace
